JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the site administrator, provides remedial services to students with language, speech and/or hearing handicaps within the framework of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) guidelines. The Principal is the evaluator.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Employ reliable assessment procedures, techniques, and standardized tests necessary for thorough and accurate diagnosis and assessment of student's functioning in the areas of language, speech and/or hearing. Use additional professional resources when supplementary diagnostic information is needed. Formulate short-and long-term intervention goals and objectives to meet individual needs via the Individualized Educational Program Team meeting. Redefine objectives and modify habilitation and instructional procedures as needed. Effect appropriate follow-up procedures for students dismissed from the program. Use research strategies and results to improve program and case management. Review relevant case files including school and health records. Use data collection to support research-based instruction and to demonstrate student achievement. Establish effective working relationships with personnel, other professionals, and parents by: Acquainting principals, teachers and other school personnel with language, speech, and/or hearing services. Participating in interdisciplinary, staff conferences with District and community personnel. Serving on diagnostic teams established in the District for purposes of identifying, assessing, and recommending placement and/or treatment of handicapped students. Providing and following schedules for assigned schools and informing appropriate personnel of any departure from the schedule. Evaluating the condition of work facilities and equipment in relation to student needs and making recommendations to the appropriate supervisor and/or administrators. Planning and conducting teacher and parent conferences. Conveying pertinent information with parental permission to involved personnel. Cooperate with District, community, regional, state and federal programs to effect comprehensive services, research, and/or training of personnel. Assist as a resource for special projects in developing programs in the areas of language and speech. Keep required school attendance register and makes periodic reports as directed. Work cooperatively with other school support personnel. Participate in staff meetings and other in-service activities. Perform other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS - QUALIFICATIONS
Credential:
Clinical Rehabilitative - Language Speech and Hearing Services Credential or equivalent. Master's Degree including all courses needed to meet credential requirements.

Master's Degree including all courses needed to meet credential requirements.
Personal Qualities:
Appearance, grooming and personality that establish a desirable example for students. Ability to meet District standards for physical and mental health. Better than average recommendations from student teaching supervisors or other professionals who have observed the personal characteristics, scholastic attainment, and classroom performance of the teacher. Must be extremely flexible and able to cope with the unexpected. Must understand and be able to cope with emotional problems of students and parents that accompany physical handicaps.
