PrintFALLBROOK UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRCT CERTIFICATED JOB DESCRIPTION SPEECH, LANGUAGE, AND HEARING SPECIALIST DEFINITION
Provides diagnostic, remedial, and consultative services for children with communicative disorders.EXAMPLE OF DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
1. Renders service directly to speech, language, and hearing handicapped high school students 2. Consults with teachers regarding speech problems and assists teachers in screening referrals for speech help. 3. Diagnoses speech, hearing, and language problems of pupils referred using appropriate tests. 4. Identifies those children possessing speech, language, and hearing handicaps. 5. Establishes a schedule which is suitable to the organizational framework of the school, 2 days a week. 6. Provides information and counseling for pupils, parents and teachers regarding speech and language problems including information to the parents on community services available. 7. Evaluated and makes periodic reports of the personal adjustment and educational progress of each speech and language handicapped pupil to parents and school personnel. 8. Develops performance objectives relative to the expected standards of student progress and has available for IEP meetings. 9. Develops criteria for assessing performance objectives. 10. Performs necessary paperwork associated with primary duties: a. Maintains daily time schedule record of all students seen and states the reasons for seeing student; b. Makes monthly reports to administrator; c. Provides assessments to school psychologist for entry three year re-evaluation and dismissal d. Provides specific goals and objectives for students prior to annual I.E.P.'s e. Evaluates objectives on a yearly basis prior to I.E.P. meeting. 11. Provides parents with home programs for practice sessions. 12. Inventories special equipment used on an annual basis. 13. Orders basic and supplemental materials for speech therapy. 14. Performs other related duties as assigned.QUALIFICAITONS 1.
Appropriate valid California Credential in Clinical or Rehabilitative Services with an Authorization in Language, Speech, and Hearing. 2.Education and Experience:
Obtain a master's or higher degree from a regionally-accredited college or university.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to: Read handwritten or typed documents and the display screen of various office equipment and machines. Conduct verbal conversation Hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels). Sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend and walk, and sit for sustained periods of time Climb slopes, stairs, steps, ramps and ladders Lift up to 30 pounds frequently, and 30 pounds occasionally Carry up to 30 pounds frequently, and 30 pounds occasionally Push and pull objects weighing up to 30 pounds Exhibit full range of motion for shoulder external rotation and internal rotation Exhibit full range of motion for shoulder abduction and adduction Exhibit full range of motion for elbow flexion and extension Exhibit full range of motion for shoulder extension and flexion Exhibit full range of motion for back lateral flexion Exhibit full range of motion for hip flexion and extension Exhibit full range of motion for knee flexion Demonstrate manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer and other classroom equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
