FUNCTIONS/SCOPE OF DUTIES

The Supervisory Speech-Language Phologist is responsible for the hiring, training, supervision, administrive management, and technical direction of full rime Speech-Language Phologists and associed clinical fellows the Atlanta VA Medical Center and other sites designed by the Chief of ASPS or designee. Supervisory responsibility for planning and scheduling work; assigning work to employees; evaluion of work quality and appraising performance to provide recommendions to the Chief of ASPS or designee. Responsible for evaluing the competencies of the staff Speech-Language Phologists to ensure th the care provided is approprie. Ensures proper coordinion of efficient health care delivery between staff Speech-Language Phologists. Responsible for development of training, competencies and hiring practices for staff Speech-Language Phologists to ensure excellence in care delivery. Responsible for development, implemention, and management of Speech Phology Telehealth services. Responsible for supervision and administrive management of other members of the ASPS service, including other clinical care sites, in the absence of the Chief of ASPS or designee. Responsible for providing comprehensive clinical services as well as serving as the first point of contact in the clinic for daily workflow issues. Responsibilities include distributing the workload among the Speech-Language Phologists in accordance to work demands and areas of job specializion, assessing the quality and quantity of the work; making day-lo-day adjustments in the assignments based on available resources and in accordance with established priorities. Provides clinic informion to the Chief of ASPS or designee. Confers with the Chief of ASPS, or designee on mters th fall outside of routine occurrences or on administrive/supervisory issues outside their designed scope of authority. Handles all supervisory responsibilities and documention for designed staff and students. Alerts the Chief of ASPS, or designee, to anticiped situions th may adversely affect delivery of clinical services and obtains assistance on problems th may arise.

A Master's degree or its equivalent in speech-language phology, communicion disorders, or a directly reled field from an accredited college or university. OR A Master's degree or its equivalent in audiology or hearing science from an accredited college or university is required. ["Accredited" means a college or university accredited by a regional accredition organizion and an audiology program recognized by the Accredition Commission for Audiology Educion (ACAE) and/or the Council on Academic Accredition of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Associion (ASHA).]

Licensure:

I ncumbent must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license in a Ste, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.

English Language Proficiency:

Speech and Language Phologists must be proficient in spoken and written English. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfhering Provision as described in the VA Qualificion Standard for this occupion (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupion and meet the criteria).

Grade Determinions :

Supervisory Speech-Language Phologist, GS-13. Experience . In addition to the basic requirements the GS-12 level, completion of one year of professional experience comparable to the next lower level.
