Purpose of Position:
This position is responsible for providing diagnostic and treatment services for patients referred with speech, language, voice, fluency, swallowing and/or related disorders. The pathologist will assess, test, treat and evaluate children, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients, recognizing age specific differences. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team in helping to restore function and in preventing disability.Description:
1. Must be courteous to patients, visitors and employees. 2. Administers diagnostic testing procedures to determine the extent of patient's impairment and the prognosis for improvement. Identifies pertinent patient problems. (20%)E 3. Sets objective, measurable treatment goals incorporating patient's goal for functional outcome. Establishes a treatment plan based on patient needs and patient family input. (20%)E 4. Performs treatment procedures and adapts techniques to meet the needs of patients. Reevaluates patients, modifies treatment plan and procedures based on patient progress.(20%)E 5. Provides objective, analytic documentation of patient care, patient/family education and information regarding units of service. Communicates effectively with medical/allied health personnel regarding patient progress, needs, and discharge planning. (15%)E 6. Participates in quality improvement, program evaluation, environmental and infection control programs. (5%)E 7. Trains new personnel as required, assists the Manager with on the job training. 8. Provides guidance and direction to PTAs aides and affiliating students. 9. Enhances professional growth and development through approved participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops. Participates in appropriate in-service educational programs. 10. Attends meetings as required. (5%) 11. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. Master's Degree in Speech Pathology. Certificate of Clinical Competence awarded by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. One to two years experience with swallowing disorders preferred. Adheres to the Professional Code of Ethics of the ASHA. Maintains current CPR certification. Demonstrates current clinical competency. Good interpersonal and organizational skills. MATHEMATICAL andCOMPUTER SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Basic computer skills.REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.Schedule Details:
