JOB TITLE:
SPEECH AND LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST JOB SUMMARY
The Speech Pathologist may provide direct, consultative, and diagnostic speech and language support to special education students and early intervention services for students through high school.
MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS
MA or MS degree. Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) preferred or eligible. ValidMichigan Speech Pathology License Valid Michigan driver's license. Reliable transportation. Ability to provide service in a variety of settings. Experience in working with students in groups and individually. Competency in the administration and interpretation of a wide variety of speech and language assessment instruments. Ability to clearly communicate assessment results and service plans, in written and oral form, to parents and professionals. Ability to cooperatively participate in student support teams, team evaluations, METs, and IFSP's. Ability to design, implement, and instruct others in the use of assistive communication devices and innovative language programs. Ability to complete and maintain required records, forms, and reports in a professional and timely manner. Ability to be flexible, to work independently, and to contribute as a member of a team. Ability to prioritize tasks, allocate time, and maintain schedule flexibility.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(May include but not be limited to): Evaluate students' speech and language abilities to determine eligibility for special education services using a variety of instruments. Provide direct remediation to eligible students in small groups or individually. Consult with classroom teachers and special education teachers to transfer language-based programs into the instructional setting. Schedule students for service and/or evaluation in multiple settings. Act as a member of diagnostic and student support teams to plan for the needs of the total child. Consult with families on the application of speech and language programs for home. Schedule evaluations, METs, and IEPs in a timely manner; chair IEPs including preparation of paperwork.
