Melvindale- Northern Allen Park Schools Roles and Responsibilities:
Ability to organize and manage the workload in order to meet legal mandates and timelines. Ability to positively and effectively communicate with students, staff, and parents verbally and in writing. Strong understanding and competency in training, coaching and supporting a Multi-tiered System of Supports Model. Assume responsibility for organization of data collected by the appraisal process into Comprehensive Individual Assessment (CIA) identifying the areas of communication assets and deficits within legal state, federal and district guidelines. Acts as a case manager for speech and language eligible students only. Responsible for providing in service and training to staff for the integration of language development into daily classroom instruction. Consults with each classroom teacher involved with students who will be receiving speech and language services. Sets up a schedule for the speech and language program which takes into consideration the student's total academic and nonacademic program and the ability to work around building schedules. Assume responsibility for writing the IEP for speech/language therapy and attend MET and IEP meetings as requested. Assume responsibility for the content, organization, and confidentiality of state eligibility folders. Implement and monitor specific IEP objectives for identified students with communication disorders. Complies with rules and regulations for Child Find. Assist and guide teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and/or identified speech and language impairments. Attend staff meetings and others as scheduled. Implement evidence based interventions with individuals and groups of students in various communicative settings. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district, policy and administrative regulation. Share in interpreting the philosophy and rationale of communication disorder services to the general faculty through in-service programs, staff meetings, and case conferences. Ability to provide quality school based services. Perform all other duties as deemed necessary by the Superintendent, Building Principal, Special Education Director or designee.
Qualifications and Education Requirements Education:
Master's degree in Speech and Language Pathology or valid Michigan teacher certification with full approval in Speech and Language Impaired.
License Required:
Speech and Language License (LARA or Michigan Teacher Certification)
Preferred :
Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech and Language Pathology from American Speech and Language Hearing Association. Job Summary Provide speech/language assessment for all referred students; to develop, implement, and evaluate speech therapy services for all students who meet eligibility criteria for enrollment in speech/language therapy.
