Speech Language Pathologist -PRN Job Summary:
To diagnose, evaluate and treat individuals with communications problems such as speech, language, fluency, and swallowing disorders. To develop and implement therapeutic speech and language development programs and services. Education & Experience Master's degree in speech pathology or related field and met the requirements for certification by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Experience cannot be substituted for educational requirement. Experience preferred. Certificate of clinical competence in speech-language pathology (CCC-SLP) from ASHA preferred. Mississippi Speech and Language Pathologist license upon hire. Certifications, Licenses or Registration required: Mississippi Speech and Language Pathologist license upon hire. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of the nature and psychobiological basis of speech-language and/or auditory impairments. Knowledge of speech articulation and language skills therapy techniques. Verbal and written communication skills. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Counseling and behavior management skills. Ability to develop, implement, evaluate, and modify therapeutic programs and services.Responsibilities:
Examines, tests, diagnoses, and administers treatment for patients with speech and language disorders, hearing disorders, and oral motor disorders. Develops and implements treatment plans for problems such as stuttering, delayed language, swallowing disorders, and inappropriate pitch or voice problems. Monitors patient's progress and adjusts treatments accordingly. Teaches patients to control or strengthen tongue, jaw, face muscles, and breathing mechanisms; develops speech exercise programs. Maintains records of initial evaluation, treatment, progress, and discharge of patients. Maintains equipment and supplies used as part of the therapeutic process; practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods. Requires occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, occasional handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, frequent exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, frequent work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, frequent bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds, occasional climbing, occasional crawling, occasional crouching/stooping, frequent kneeling, frequent pushing/pulling, constant reaching, occasional sitting, constant standing, occasional twisting, and constant walking.
