Job Description

Category Schools - SLP Job Type Contract Bring your expertise in speech-language pathology to a dynamic high school setting dedicated to supporting students with moderate to severe medical needs. This part-time contract opportunity focuses on empowering high school students—many of whom are nonverbal or minimally verbal and rely on AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) or speech-generating devices. The school fosters a compassionate, flexible work environment, and you'll collaborate with an experienced and supportive on-site SLP.
Key Qualifications:
Hold a valid NC State License and Educator Certification in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP-CCC required) Demonstrated experience working with secondary-aged students with moderate to severe disabilities Advanced knowledge of AAC devices and a variety of speech-generating devices Comfortable supporting a caseload of approximately 25-35 students primarily through support plans and device management, with minimal direct therapy Professional, compassionate, and collaborative approach; ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team Previous school-based experience and specialty in complex communication needs preferred
Primary Responsibilities:
Assess, implement, and monitor AAC and speech-generating device solutions for students Collaborate with another on-site SLP, as well as teachers and support staff Participate in IEP meetings and provide input for student support plans Deliver training and consultation to staff and caregivers on AAC best practices Maintain compliant records for all assigned students This role is flexible, ideally covering 15 hours over two days per week, but candidates seeking fewer or additional hours will also be considered. The school year runs from August 24, 2026, through June 4, 2027, with potential extra days for planning tasks.
