Job Description
Function:
To evaluate and provide services to students who have been identified with speech, hearing, and/or a language disability that directly interferes with an individual student's ability to access the curriculum and educational success. The Speech and Language Pathologist works directly under the supervision of the WED Speech and Language Department Chairperson.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Develops individual education program (IEP) for students who qualify for speech and/or language services. Provides services to meet the needs of individuals who have qualified under the criteria for speech, hearing, and/or language disabilities, with an emphasis on academic and achievement in the school environment. Provides screenings for students with suspected speech, language, and/or hearing deficits affecting classroom performance and achievement. The SLP will be aware of and involved in the building-based MTSS (Mult-Tiered System of Supports) within their assigned buildings to provide interventions to students identified through related screening protocols and/or observations by the SLP. Provides thorough assessments in areas of articulation, fluency, voice, hearing, and language (expressive, receptive, and social language). Provides information, support and carryover strategies for speech and language skills to parents and families. Maintains thorough on-going records for the individual students receiving speech & language services as a means of effective data collection and progress monitoring. Consults frequently with parents, teachers and support personnel with regard to the individual child's progress, current goals and objectives and to make recommendations about strategies that could be used both in the home and in classroom to enhance carryover of skills. Provides in-service training and professional development to classroom teachers and support personnel as needed. Assumes responsibilities for related duties within their specific assignment that may be assigned by the administration.Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree from an institution approved by the State Board of Regents and a Master's Degree in the field of speech and language will be required. Such alternatives, such as Clinical Fellowship Interns, to the above experiential requirements will be determined on a case-by-case basis. The applicant must hold, or be eligible to hold, a teaching certificate as a Speech and Language Therapist issued by the Rhode Island Department of Education. The applicant must have or be in the process of obtaining a clinical certificate of competence through ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association). Clinical Fellowship Year interns will be considered. Must hold an active license through theRhode Island Department of Health Preferred Qualifications:
