Job Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE
To conduct appropriate diagnostic evaluations in the area of communication disorders, and provide direct or indirect therapy services, and to promote a positive working relationship among and between staff by establishing a climate conducive to open communication and productive work to enhance student learning.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
Master's Degree in Communication Disorders, required Certificate of Clinical Competence conferred by the American Speech /Hearing/Language Association, required Texas State License in Speech-Language Pathology, required Deaf & Hard of Hearing Certificate, preferred (RSD only)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Utilize effective communication, both verbal and written, able to communicate in sign language (RSD only) to administer appropriate diagnostic instruments and develop and interpret evaluation reports in English / Spanish; and to utilize interpersonal and organizational skills to coordinate and execute effective therapy plans for students with communication disorders.
Experience:
Three (3) years of clinical or educational setting experience in the areas of communication disorders, required

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Perform appropriate diagnostic evaluations in the areas of language, articulation, voice and fluency for students ages 3-22 years. 2. Interpret evaluation reports to school personnel, parents, and outside agencies, as appropriate. 3. Demonstrate knowledge of RTI process; analyze and review student folders for possible referral for special education evaluation., and observe students in various environments, including the classroom, home, or other environments as necessary. 4. Develop draft individual educational plans and include recommendations for interventions and instructional or functional recommendations specific to identified communication disorders in diagnostic / evaluation reports. 5. Comply with local and federal mandated timelines for all evaluations and Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee meetings, and submit complete PEIMS data according to district timeline. 6. Provide services as recommended by the student's individual educational plan for both direct and/or indirect services and maintain current records as required by local, state, and federal guidelines. 7. Monitor and assess student progress, providing IEP Progress reports for all students receiving Speech therapy services and maintain current records as required by local, state, and federal guidelines. 8. Develop, maintain, and communicate with campus staff and supervisors, a daily schedule of Speech & Language services. 9. Consult and communicate routinely with staff and parents to provide IEP planning and support to the campus and the student's disability, disseminate information to other professionals through written materials or presentations through in-services and trainings, and be fluent in knowledge of special education guidelines, Procedural Safeguards, and The Admission, Review, and Dismissal Guide. 10. Maintain a professional and collaborative relationship with parents, administrators, staff, and support personnel. Assist in campus/ district sponsored activities related to the special. 11. Utilize and maintain assistive technology. 12. Assist in providing training / support for online ARD management program, and work collaboratively with other professionals to implement student individualized educational plans. 13. Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards. 14. Perform other duties assigned by immediate supervisor/ primary evaluator.

Computer, Language Master, voice output devices, auditory trainers, and other Assistive Technology Devices.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Mental Demands:
Maintain emotional control under stress; meet deadlines
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Occasional prolonged and irregular hours; frequent districtwide travel and occasional state travel; Some lifting and transport of materials (5-10 lbs).
