JOB SUMMARY
Plans and conducts speech language evaluations and provides consultative and/or direct speech language therapy services for eligible students to maximize communication, cognitive functioning, academic success and independent functioning. Participates on educational planning teams and decision-making committees and provides professional input regarding individual educational programs. Stays in compliance with all timelines and other requirements based on federal and state special education laws, rules and regulations.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Identifies through evaluation speech or language impairment(s) that adversely affect a students educational performance such as stuttering, impaired articulation, language impairment, or voice impairment Develops and writes a full individual evaluation report for all students referred of diagnostic testing, medical information, sociological data, language data and behavioral data to present to the ARD committee and to remain as part of the students eligibility file Implements therapy plans based on IEPs for assigned students Coordinates speech only ARDs (initials, walk-in) as stated in the IEP and serves as a resource to the local school staff in assessing causes of failure and developing solutions Verifies speech language eligibility and programming of special education students new to district and requests special education records to other districts Maintains eligibility folders for speech only students and provides eligibility information to diagnosticians for students receiving speech as a related service and updates SEMS data to ensure that special education students are correctly coded for federal and state funding purposes Plans and provides direct and consultative services consistent with speech language therapy goals contained in students Individual Education Plan (IEP) Reports progress on IEP goals and objectives through a written report as designated by district reporting periods Evaluates student progress and determine readiness for termination of speech language therapy Designs, constructs, alters and provides students with augmentative communication devices to promote maximum communication Confers with parents regarding their childs special education testing results Serves as a resource to parents concerning activities they can implement in the home setting Keeps current on the continual changes and the most current legal interpretations of state and federal guidelines, policies and procedures

Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment

Work is located in a classroom environment; must have ability to move from one location to another throughout the district; regular exposure to noise

Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION
Texas License in Speech Pathology/SLP Intern Masters Degree with ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence preferred or Masters Degree and application for Clinical Fellow (CF) Bilingual preferred
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
Broad knowledge of speech and language therapy services in public schools. Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
