General Description:
The Speech Language Pathologist evaluates, assists in identification of, and treats students with speech, language, voice, or fluency disorders to facilitate the development of communication in relation to their educational programming.
Essential Responsibilities:
Evaluates students referred with speech and/or language concerns to determine area(s) of involvement and degree of severity Follows the timelines and completes the appropriate paperwork for determining students' eligibility for special education services under the federal disability category of Speech Language Impairment (SLI) or the need for speech/language therapy as a Related Service Develops and proposes appropriate Individualized Education Plans for identified students to the team and implements the plan according to state and local regulations Provides speech and/or language therapy according to the needs of the students and the state and local guidelines Consults with teachers regarding the students who have been found eligible for special education services under the federal disability category of SLI or who receive speech/language therapy as a Related Service Enter therapy notes into the Medicaid system for reimbursement to the school division, as appropriate Screens students in the school division for speech/language concerns per Virginia requirements Works as part of an interdisciplinary team for students who have multiple disabilities; this could include the consultation when the team needs guidance with facilitating language in the classroom, developing and/or training for the use of an augmentative or alternative communication system, or developing and implementing a feeding program, as appropriate Develops or recommends home activities and consults with parents, as necessary Observes classrooms, as requested, to provide suggestions for addressing classroom-based speech/language concerns or concepts Presents professional development opportunities for school faculty, as warranted Provides information or reports to the Office of Special Education, as requested Performs related duties as required or assigned
Required Qualifications:
Master's Degree Virginia license through the Virginia Department of Health Professions (VaDHP), Board of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology (BASLP) Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) through the American Speech, Language, and Hearing Association (ASHA)

$57,715 - $122,509 See

Note:
Salary steps do not necessarily equate with years of experience. Credit on the teacher salary scale will be awarded for full-time teaching experience in a public or accredited private school. Other relevant experience may be given consideration.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
Employees are required to use hands to handle, feel, or reach objects, materials, and/or controls The employee must be able to lift and or move up to 50 pounds Regular contact with students, other staff, parents, medical professionals, and other community members may be required The employee must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality Job responsibilities may include both inside and outside duties Sitting, standing, and walking may be required for extended periods of time. Bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching may be needed to perform some duties Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus Hearing and speaking is required for the exchange of information Use of computer or other device screens is necessary This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and fax machines This job may involve moving students from wheelchairs, occasional lifting of up to 70 pounds or the use of a Hoyer lift
