  • Valid Master's Degree in Speech Pathology
  • American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) Certification (or willing to obtain)
  • Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate
  • Perform the job duties set forth below.
Job Summary:
A speech language pathologist (SLP) works to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, and swallowing disorders in school age children.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Identify children with speech-language problems
  • Screen, appraise, and diagnose specific speech-language impairments
  • Refer for medical/other profession attention necessary of the habilitation of children with speech language impairments
  • Provide services for the prevention of communication impairments
  • Provide counseling and guidance for parent, children, and teachers regarding speech-language impairments
  • Participate in county Child Find system
  • Participate in student assistant teams (SAT) when appropriate
  • Participate in Eligibility, Evaluation, and Individual Education Program (IEP) Team committees
  • Manage caseload (scheduling, grouping, and service delivery)
  • Facilitate the implementation of assistive technology
  • Collect and maintain documentation
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and maintain professional certification
  • Participate in literacy intervention models when appropriate
  • Complete Medicaid billing as needed
  • Maintain professional work habits
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities as set forth in Nicholas County Board of Education Policy and as directed by immediate supervisor or the superintendent.
ATTENTION

This factor will be awarded to the candidate having the most significant relevant specialized training All applicants not currently employed by Boone County Schools must include copies of "past performance evaluations conducted pursuant to WV Code 18A-2-12 and 18A-3c-2 or, in the case of a classroom teacher, past evaluations of the applicant's performance in the teaching profession as a certified educator." Each separate evaluation must be submitted as a single PDF document in the Upload Documents section within the Frontline system and must be titled "Evaluation."
