Job Description

The focus of SLPAs is on improving the communication abilities of all ages and stages. The SLPA works under the supervision of an SLP and assists in remediating, improving, or alleviating communication and swallowing problems. Under the supervision of an SLP, the SLPA may be utilized for all areas of intervention, including consultation, direct treatment, training others, and the use of assistive/adaptive equipment. Office and School setting experience are preferred. Provide speech therapy to patients under the supervision of the Speech-Language Pathologist. Establishes therapy schedules in conjunction with other team members. Collaborate and support plan of care. Coordinates treatment plan with family and other team members. Implements and conducts treatment as outlined in treatment plan. Monitors patient's response to intervention and modifies treatment as indicated to attain goals. Assist with development of appropriate home or community programming to maintain and enhance the performance of the child in their own environment. Documents results of child's treatment of services. Adapts treatment to meet the individual needs of the child. Instructs family and staff in appropriate speech-language procedures or home program to allow carry over of therapeutic remediation and goals in daily activities. Participates in family and staff education. Confers informally with other team members in coordinating the treatment of the child. Adheres to procedures regarding documentation of Speech Therapy services. Attends in-service meetings and facility meetings as required. Assumes responsibility for ongoing continuing education and professional development. Records billable treatment times according to APA's procedures and submits weekly/time sheet. Maintains safe and clean work area and adheres to facility/company safety standards. Consistently demonstrates sound judgment in the evaluation, planning, implementation and follow-up of therapy programs. Reports to work at the time designated by schedule and coordinates schedule to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during assigned shift. Projects a positive and professional image at all times. Maintains positive relationships and rapport with coworkers and family members. Performs other duties as assigned. Summary As a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant, you will support licensed speech-language pathologists in delivering effective speech therapy services, particularly within school settings. Your core skills in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology will be essential in understanding and assisting with treatment plans. With premium experience in working with children and pediatrics, you will engage with students to promote communication development. Additionally, your relevant skills in early intervention and IEP processes will ensure that each child receives tailored support to enhance their speech and language abilities, contributing significantly to their educational success. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders or related field Knowledge of speech therapy techniques and medical terminology Experience working with children, particularly in a school setting Familiarity with anatomy and physiology relevant to speech and language development Understanding of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and early intervention strategies Ability to work collaboratively with educators and healthcare professionals in acute care and pediatric environments
