Speech Language Pathologist Assistant Firefly Autism Lakewood, Colorado Share Save Job Apply for This Job Commute Time Show on map From Location To Location 2001 Hoyt St, Lakewood, CO 80215, USA General Summary Responsible for implementing treatment plans regarding speech/language programming for all center-based learners overseen by an ASHA-certified and state licensed Speech-Language Pathologist. SLPA must have knowledge in the areas of expressive and receptive language, articulation, pragmatics, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Treatment must include the use of evidence-based behavioral methodology to support learners (e.g., principles of reinforcement, prompting, modeling, shaping). SLPA must support supervising SLP with data collection, assessments and screenings, prepping materials, and staff training. Supervisor's Title Reports to the Speech-Language Pathologist. Supervised by the Speech-Language Pathologist, Director of Center-Based Services, and Director of Clinical Operations. Schedule
  • Employment is part time/hourly.
  • Hours required: 50-60 hours per month. 2-3 days per week. Possible transition to full-time Essential Skills and Qualifications
  • An associate's degree in an SLPA program or a bachelor's degree in a speech-language pathology or communication disorders program.
  • Successful completion of a minimum of 100 hours of supervised fieldwork experience or its clinical experience equivalent and demonstration of competency in the skills required of an SLPA
  • Demonstrates understanding of instructional strategies for learners with autism and other behavior disorders
  • Ability to provide neurodiversity-affirming intervention
  • Knowledge of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and a variety of AAC applications
  • Experience working with a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience across a variety of age ranges and abilities Desired Qualifications
  • School-based experience and early childhood experience
  • Familiar with sign language
  • Knowledge of literacy intervention for learners with moderate to severe disabilities Performance Expectations The SLPA provides direct treatment laid out in treatment plans to the clients of Firefly Autism while supervised by an ASHA-certified and/or licensed SLP. With supervision from the SLP, this treatment is provided through:
  • Weekly meetings with the SLP and periodic meetings with other support staff including Behavior Analysts
  • Periodic observations of individual learners
  • Skill probes with individual learners
  • Consultation on development of speech and language programming
  • Staff trainings on specific speech and language programs
  • Review of data on speech and language programs
  • Review of IEP speech and language current levels and goals for all learners
  • Providing initial and ongoing training for all staff in relevant domains of speech and language
  • Effective implementation of crisis and physical intervention procedures
  • Participates in all relevant meetings regarding learners' speech and language and/or behavior programming with direct supervision of the SLP
  • Weekly attendance of team meetings for ongoing case consultation
  • Participates in annual crisis management training as well as CPR and First Aid certification
  • Completes annual requirements for licensure/certification including continuing education credits for both speech/language pathology
  • Holds confidential all knowledge of learners and their families Conforms to dress code commensurate with the appropriate program requirements Physical ability to perform duties of the position, and other duties as assigned Other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned Professional Development and Training As employees move through training and expand their skill sets, job requirements and compensation increase may take place with experience and performance objective criteria.

  • Able to sit and stand frequently and shift positions quickly
  • Able to do the following for extended periods of time:
  • Sit/kneel on floor
  • Sit in a chair
  • Stand
  • Walk
  • Able to provide physical guidance, physical prompts, and bending for learners ages 3 to 21 years of age
  • Able to move quickly and keep up with running learners
  • Pass crisis management training and safely apply all physical management procedures on any learners when necessary
