Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) -
Home Health Pediatrics Job Overview:
The SLPA will assist a licensed Speech Language Pathologist in providing direct therapy services to pediatric patients in their homes. This position involves working closely with children who have a range of speech, language, and communication disorders, providing therapy under the direction of an SLP, and helping families understand how to support their child's communication goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide speech-language therapy services to pediatric patients as prescribed by the supervising SLP, adhering to individualized treatment plans. Assist in developing and implementing therapy programs that focus on language development, speech sound production, social communication, feeding, and swallowing as applicable. Monitor and document patient progress, maintaining accurate records of therapy sessions, patient responses, and adjustments to treatment plans. Collaborate with SLPs, families, and other healthcare professionals to support the child's overall development. Educate and train family members and caregivers on therapy strategies and techniques to continue at home. Adjust therapy techniques based on patient needs and performance under the guidance of the supervising SLP. Follow safety protocols and procedures for home health environments and ensure that home therapy is conducted in a safe, clean, and engaging manner for the child. Maintain compliance with healthcare regulations, state licensure requirements, and ethical guidelines in practice.
Qualifications:
Associate degree or bachelor's degree in Speech-Language Pathology Assistance or a related field. Valid state SLPA licensure or certification as required by the state of Florida. Experience working with pediatric populations, ideally in a home health setting. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially in engaging children and supporting families. Ability to work independently under the supervision of an SLP. Organizational skills to manage time, document therapy, and report on progress.
Preferred Skills:
Knowledge of developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder, and other pediatric communication disorders. Familiarity with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and techniques. Experience in feeding and swallowing therapy (if relevant to the scope of practice).
Working Conditions:
Home visits to patients in various locations. Requires travel between appointments within a designated area. Flexible hours based on patient schedules, including possible evenings or weekends.
