BASIC FUNCTION
The Speech-language pathology assistant provides certain language, articulation, voice and fluency activities as assigned by the supervising speech-language pathologist as denoted in Iowa Administrative Rules of Special Education 41.403(2).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Conduct speech-language screenings, as directed by the supervising SLP. Follow and deliver treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising SLP. Document patient/client performance. Assist supervising SLP during assessment. Assist with informal documentation, preparing materials and other clerical duties. Schedule activities as directed by the supervising SLP. Perform checks and maintenance of equipment. Participate in professional development provided by or through the district. Serve as an advocate for all children and youth. Demonstrate cultural competence and behaviors consistent with the core values, vision and mission of Des Moines Public Schools.
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
(for every DMPS position): Attend work on a prompt and regular basis. Maintain confidentiality. Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees. Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
HIRING SPECIFICATIONS
Required:
Bachelor's degree in speech pathology, communications disorders or education from a recognized training institution or enrollment in a speech-language pathology program.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Basic computer skills including internet, email, and word processing. Detail-oriented and ability to multi-task.
