Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent Bachelors degree in communicative science and disorders from an accredited college or university. Valid Texas licence as a Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant granted by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Proficient keyboarding, word processing, and file maintenance skills Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills Knowledge of speech-language disorders and conditions. Ability to instruct and manage behavior Ability to use copier, fax machine, and multifunction telephone system Bilingual Preferred
Experience:
One year supervised clinical Speech-Language Pathology Assistant experience.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Align the major functions of the assignment with district goals such that all students succeed. Implement the treatment program of the individualized education plan (IEP) as designed by the supervising licensed speech language pathologist. Conduct observations and complete required documentation for students.
Consultation:
Counsel and involve parents in the remedial process under the direction of the Speech Language Pathologist supervisor. Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom activities to improve communication skills of students. Provide professional development in assigned schools to help school personnel identify and understand communication deficits in students in conjunction with the Speech Language Pathologist supervisor. Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents regarding the accomplishment of therapy goals and needs of the student in conjunction with the Speech Language Pathologist supervisor.
Student Management:
Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level and interests of students. Establish control and administer discipline according to the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Administration:
Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents. Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations. Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment. Program Management Create and edit correspondence, documents, memos, emails, reports, etc., for conveying information. Maintain physical and computerized department files. Maintain a high level of confidential records, logs and student files. Interpreter for Spanish speaking parents as needed in their native language for meetings, home visits, incoming calls, or for setting up appointments, if Bilingual.
Supervision:
Work under direction of licensed Speech Language Pathologist to implement therapy programs for assigned caseload. Collaborate and communicate effectively with supervising Speech Language Pathologist to assure a professional relationship between Speech Pathologist and Speech Pathologist Assistant.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress. Extended periods of work seated at a desk, repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer. Occasional lifting of items up to 20 pounds. Regula district wide travel to multiple locations as assigned. Bryan ISD is an equal opportunity employer.
