HOURLY General Summary:
The Sterile Processing Department Educator collaborates with Perioperative services to evaluate, revise, and enforce educational programs, competency-based education, curriculum, and other related materials needed for facility needs. Educators will develop and organize educational content and curriculum; implement, conduct and enforce training programs for all departmental staff members. SPD Educators are responsible for developing tools, competencies, and retention methods needed to evaluate and maintain records of participation. Ensures proper documentation processes are in place for sterilization methods and performs audits to ensure processes remain within acceptable range as defined by industry standards. Works collaboratively with Materials, Perioperative Services and all procedural clinical areas to ensure all areas within Bayhealth are utilizing appropriate measures to sterilize and decontaminate all reusable instruments and equipment. Department team members are authorized to have limited access to secured medication rooms to perform duties and responsibilities as defined in this job description. Any staff member requiring limited access to secured medication rooms must have a fully completed and signed Medication Security Agreement for Non-Licensed Personnel form on file and available upon request.
Responsibilities:
1. Conducts orientation and coordinates schedules for new hires and directly advises for annual compliance, safety violations as needed. 2. Through observation and past performance records, the educator will identify areas of concern and implement programs for process improvement. 3. Monitors and evaluates the quality of patient care; pursues training opportunities to improve patient care. 4. Conducts competency evaluations through skill demonstration and written assessments to determine areas for performance improvement. Develops and uses evaluation tools to measure the effectiveness of training. 5. Creates education pamphlets and presentations. 6. Determines measurable goals and objectives for educational programs. 7. Organizes and conducts educational sessions and formal training on a regular basis. 8. Modifies educational content, training programs, and methodologies as needed. 9. Incorporates appropriate teaching methodologies to meet identified needs and course objectives. 10. Collaborates with vendors to coordinate and promote educational events. 11. Assists in the Certification of the Sterile Processing Staff. Mentors and supports Technicians as they progress toward certification. Monitors staff to maintain their certifications. 12. Assist Manager in inspections of onsite and offsite areas that perform instrument processing, to insure that the sites are working within established guidelines. 13. Provides feedback to managers and supervisors regarding orientations, trainings and educational process of staff members. Participates in the interview process for Sterile Processing Department applicants. 14. Provides feedback on employee evaluations as requested by leadership. 15. Serves as system administrator of the instrument tracking system, responsible for all training and system updates for Bayhealth. 16. Continuously researches and studies the professional field of Sterile Processing. 17. Participates in continuing education programs to: improve course curriculum and content, improve interactions between employees and patients, update best practices, and maintain professional competence and skills needed to perform duties adequately. 18. Documents improvement findings and updates; submits reports to the Manager. 19. Creates, records, and maintains accurate in-service records with complete accuracy as required by the customer and regulatory agencies. 20. Ensures that records, attendance logs, and other educational documentation are accurate and completed in a timely manner. 21. Engages in process and quality improvement activities. 22. Ensures that processes and services are continuously monitored for: quality, cost effectiveness, and efficiency. 23. Ensures that services are provided in accordance with State and Federal regulations, organizational policy and accreditation compliance requirements. 24. Makes and implements recommendations to improve operational efficiency and to implement new services for areas of responsibility. 25. Provides information to management on the implication of policies and procedures being formulated, and recommends specific action. 26. Contributes an educational perspective as an influential member of the department. 27. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities. High School Diploma or GED ; ; Credential(s): Certified Registered Central Service Technician ; Or CSPDT.

3 years Lead Technician or Supervisory experience in Sterile Processing.

5 years Sterile Processing and/or Supervisory experience in Sterile Processing Department Preferred Education, Credential(s) and
