Job Description

Supervises the day to day operations of the Central Sterile Processing Department on all shifts. The Central Sterile Department is responsible for the Decontamination, Set Assembly/Preparation, and Sterilization of all medical equipment, surgical instrumentation, and operating room case carts.
Job Description:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the safe and efficient practices for decontamination, instrument assembly, and sterilization of all reprocessed instruments and equipment.

Monitors and maintains a safe work environment.

Accountability for all persoiuiel and activities occurring in the depanment.

Provides direct and effective supervision to ensure timely delivery of clean and/or sterile instrumentation and medical equipment.

Adheres to Standard precautions.

Maintains adequate department staffing levels to ensure daily operation services to the Operating room.

Monitors, maintains, and records all department quality improvement systems activities in accordance with departmental and facility policy.

Conducts departmental orientation, training, skills review, and assists the Director with educational programs to maintain high staff performance standards.

Monitors inventory levels to ensure adequate supplies, preventing waste and controlling costs.

Assists management with payroll, non-payroll and capital budgets.

Actively particpates in unit-based Q.I., Performance Improvement studies and unit meetings.

Attends and/or particpates in in-house or outside training programs to improve and augment skills and knowledge.

Provides an ongoing communications with staff and ancillary department.

Recognizes hazardous equipment and situations and notifies Director of Surgical Services or designee.
ADDITIONAL REQUIRED COMPONENTS
Employees maintain competencies (position specific and hospital-wide) required for the specific patient population served.

Performs all duties following safety and other laws, rules, and regulations set forth by appropriate regulatory and government agencies and in accordance with established department and hospital policies and procedures.

May be required to perform similar or related duties as may be necessary on an emergency basis or as designated by the department or supervisor.

The nature of the tasks/responsibilities required of employees in this position will likely expose them to blood and body fluids. Employees will be oriented to and required to understand and follow the standard precautions for infection control. A summary list of tasks and procedures that may cause exposure to blood and fluids is listed in the attached Physical Abilities Job Description. Also identified is the protective gear that is available.

QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduate and graduate of approved Central Sterile Program.

Minimum three years in Central Sterile and/or Operating Room. Previous supervisor skills preferred or Lead tech.

Outstanding communication skills Data processing experience required. Good organizational skills.

Membership with a National Sterile Processing Organization preferred.
Pay Range:
$32.00 - $43.07The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
