Job Description

Work Shift Evening/Night Scheduled Weekly Hours 40 Summary This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by providing exceptional, quality services and goods to our customers in the clinical areas throughout Mercy Medical Center. This is achieved by cleaning and sterilizing instruments/trays as well as overseeing all central sterile processes to ensure patient safety. The Central Sterile Monitoring Technician has advanced knowledge of central sterile roles, demonstrates leadership skills and serves as an education resource. Job Description Job Duties/Essential Functions Performs ATP Testing of reusable medical devices. Updates count sheets as needed. Monitors sterilization/HLD loads. Fills missing instruments in trays. Reviews IFUs and sits on committee when necessary to provide guidance. Ensures IFU adherence. Assist in reviewing policies and procedures specific to Central Sterile. Performs DI/Potable water testing as needed. Performs weekly tray audits. Maintains knowledge of all sterilization processes. Provides educational in-services, training courses and competencies as requested. Precepts new staff/vendors as needed. Assists with onboarding employees traveling from one location to the other. Assists and provides education to vendors on tray tagging process. Runs reports used to educate staff. Functions as CS Technician as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor and Manager. Participates in decision making activities related to the evaluation and purchase of surgical equipment, instruments and supplies. Develops, organizes and delivers educational information at department meetings and in services for CS & OR as needed. Assists CS staff with prioritizing needs. Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Must read, write, speak, and comprehend English fluently. Perform simple math. Able to work with frequent interruptions and handle multiple tasks. Meets qualifications and responsibilities of the Central Sterile Technician. Serves as a model of service excellence for the department. Possesses a strong knowledge base in instrumentation and sterilization. Demonstrates critical thinking skills in anticipating the needs of the organization. Demonstrates competency in unit specific skills as identified in the developmental checklist. Demonstrates knowledge and trouble shooting skills of equipment in OR and CS. Demonstrates leadership abilities. Professional Experience Minimum 2 years Central Sterile experience required; additional CS or OR experience preferred. Education High School Diploma or equivalent required. Licensure, Certification, Registration Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician certification required. 2 additional (HSPA) Healthcare Sterile Processing Association certifications to be obtained within 18 months of hire. A Driver's License must be maintained as it is required for the position.
