BLS Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technician to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for the sterilization, preparation, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment, ensuring that all items meet strict safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate will play a crucial part in maintaining infection control protocols, supporting surgical teams, and safeguarding patient safety through meticulous processing procedures. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to a high-quality healthcare environment by ensuring the availability of sterile instruments necessary for patient care. Responsibilities Receive, inspect, and sort used surgical instruments and medical devices for cleaning and sterilization. Operate sterilization equipment such as autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners, and drying machines according to manufacturer guidelines. Disassemble complex instruments for thorough cleaning and reassemble them accurately after sterilization. Maintain detailed records of sterilization cycles, instrument tracking, and equipment maintenance logs. Ensure compliance with infection control policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements at all times. Prepare surgical trays and instrument sets based on procedural needs, verifying completeness and functionality. Perform routine quality checks on sterilized items to confirm proper sterilization indicators have been met. Collaborate with surgical teams to ensure timely availability of sterile instruments for scheduled procedures. Maintain a clean, organized work environment adhering to hospital or facility protocols. Participate in ongoing training to stay current with best practices in sterile processing techniques. Skills Proven experience as a Sterile Processing Technician or in a similar role within a healthcare setting. Knowledge of sterilization methods, infection control standards, and regulatory guidelines such as OSHA or CDC requirements. Familiarity with sterilization equipment including autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners, and sterilization indicators. Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently. Ability to follow detailed instructions accurately and work effectively within a team environment. Good communication skills to coordinate with surgical staff and other healthcare professionals. Basic computer skills for record keeping and documentation purposes. This position is integral to delivering safe patient care through meticulous instrument management.
