Position Summary The Sterilization Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant clinical environment by properly cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing, and organizing dental instruments and equipment. This role plays a critical part in infection control, patient safety, and clinical efficiency by ensuring providers and clinical staff have timely access to properly sterilized instruments and supplies in accordance with OSHA, CDC, and practice protocols. Duties and Responsibilities Clean, disinfect, package, label, and sterilize dental instruments and equipment in accordance with OSHA, CDC, and practice infection control guidelines Operate and maintain sterilization equipment, including autoclaves and ultrasonic cleaners Perform biological monitoring (spore testing) and maintain accurate sterilization logs and documentation Inspect instruments for cleanliness, damage, and functionality; report issues for needed replacements Organize and stock sterilized instrument trays and treatment rooms to support efficient patient flow Monitor inventory levels of sterilization supplies and personal protective equipment (PPE) and notify leadership when restocking is needed Maintain cleanliness and organization of sterilization areas, clinical workspaces, and storage areas Follow proper handling and disposal procedures for sharps, biohazard waste, and contaminated materials Adhere to all safety protocols, infection control standards, and workplace policies Support clinical team members as needed to maintain smooth daily operations Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Ability to follow detailed protocols and maintain accurate records Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and compliance Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in a dental or medical sterilization environment Knowledge of dental infection control standards and sterilization procedures Dental Sterilization Technician or Infection Control certification Familiarity with OSHA, CDC, and HIPAA guidelines Experience operating autoclaves and maintaining sterilization logs Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods of time Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 30 pounds Manual dexterity to handle small instruments and equipment Ability to safely work with chemicals, heat, and sterilization equipment Work Environment This position works primarily in a clinical and sterilization area. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, and sterilization equipment is expected. Proper PPE and safety training are provided.
