A washer-disinfector needs attention before the next round of surgeries. You diagnose the issue, source the right part from your stocked vehicle, and have it running smoothly before lunch. In the afternoon, you complete a scheduled PM on a steam sterilizer and log compliance details using our digital tools—then you finish the day advising a Customer on repair options and next steps. That's impact you can see. As a remote, field-based, Customer-facing technician, you'll work primarily inside hospitals, independently managing your schedule while backed by a nationwide team. You'll troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and install complex mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic equipment used in surgical and sterile processing environments. You'll work on STERIS's flagship OEM portfolio—approximately 160 devices—foundational to our company's history, including: Washers and Cart Washers Sterilizers Ultrasonics Steam Generators What you'll do Diagnose and repair STERIS and competitor equipment; perform routine and preventive maintenance. Own your calendar—prioritize PMs, service and warranty calls, installs, and field upgrades to meet Customer and business needs. Document work using advanced digital platforms to meet regulatory and compliance standards. Partner with Tech Support, Engineering, and Service Contract Management to escalate tough issues and resolve them quickly. Present findings, pricing, and repair options to Customers; collaborate with Sales (with management support) and identify revenue opportunities within your territory. Support multiple sites within your assigned territory based on service agreements and needs. What makes you a great fit High school diploma or GED and 4+ years of work experience, including 2+ years in a mechanical/technical role. An associate degree, related certifications, competitive equipment training, or relevant military experience may count toward the technical requirement. Valid driver's license and ability to meet hospital/vendor credentialing requirements, including background and physical assessments. Experience engaging with Customers and teams; clear written and verbal communication.
Comfort with basic computer tasks:
Windows, email, navigation, mobile apps, and multi-system data entry. Flexibility for early/late hours and occasional overnights to support Customer and business needs. Ability to comply with hospital/Customer credentialing requirements. Candidates with backgrounds in HVAC, maintenance, refrigeration, boilers/chillers, equipment repair, diesel/automotive, aviation, plumbing, and electrical often excel in this role.
Compensation Base pay range:
$65,000.00 - $75,000.00 (role is bonus and commission eligible). Minimum pay rates will comply with county/city minimums where higher. Actual pay is influenced by location-specific labor markets, years of relevant experience, education, certifications, language fluency, and other factors. You will be responsible for troubleshooting and repairing medical equipment used in surgical procedures, as well as providing installation support on complex mechanical, electromechanical and electronic units. This is STERIS' main line of OEM equipment (Washers, Sterilizers, Ultrasonics, Steam Generators, Cart Washers), it is our largest equipment portfolio (160 pieces), and consists of the equipment our company was founded on.
