Job Description Summary The Sterile Processing Tech perform multiple tasks assisting with the daily operations in the Sterile Processing department including, decontamination, preparation, packaging, sterilization and distribution of supplies, and instruments for the operating room.

Job Description Work Environment:
Work environment includes sterile storeroom, surgery settings, and all units that Sterile Processing services. May be exposed to hazardous conditions, infections and infectious diseases.
Essential Functions:
Assists with preparing instruments for various trays. Assists with rotation and maintaining quality of supplies Assists OR staff and surrounding clinical staff with instrument needs Provide excellent and courteous customer service Assembly of case carts from Surgeons' Preference Card/Pick List Assists with decontamination methods, operating case cart/instrument washers, sterilizers and sterile storage. Conducts biological testing on all sterilizers: steam and Sterrad (low temperature sterilization with Hydrogen Peroxide). Performs basic computer functions. Assists in the use of the IMPRESS Instrument Training System. Practices within the standards of AAMI/ANSI, AORN, OSHA and RMC policies and procedures. Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
In order to perform the essential functions of this position, you must be able to stand, walk, use hands, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, talk, hear, lift at least 50 pounds, push, pull or exert energy up to 75% of the time. Must also have clear vision at 20 inches or less.
Mental Requirements:
Able to read with comprehension and interpret business or safety manuals, clinical or technical procedures or regulations; write reports, correspondence or manuals; effectively present information and respond to questions from other employees and medical staff.
Age Group:
This position primarily interacts with other RMC staff and provides no direct patient care. All staff members must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to meet the physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related needs of the persons in the assigned work area. Additional Job Description High school diploma or GED equivalent; Knowledge of medical terminology, instrumentation, surgical procedures and some experience in the healthcare setting is preferred; Must complete the Sterile Processing training program and receive certification within one (1) year of hiring into the position.
