The Sterile Processing Technician performs high-level disinfectant and sterile processing functions that directly impact patient safety, infection prevention, and clinical efficiency across surgical, hospital, and clinic settings. Responsibilities Sterile Processing Functions Perform duties and troubleshoot across all areas of sterile processing, including decontamination, assembly, and sterilization Process advanced instrumentation and equipment according to manufacturer and departmental guidelines Inspect instruments for cleanliness, integrity, and functionality Operate and troubleshoot sterile processing equipment Maintain safety standards and infection control practices Prepare case carts and deliver instrumentation to the operating room Stock operating room par levels for stored instrumentation and emergency carts Perform sterile processing tasks across surgical, hospital, and clinic settings Support efficient sterilization of instruments used in patient care Scope Reprocessing, Infection Control, and Quality Adhere to hospital, Joint Commission, and SGNA guidelines for quality control and procedural safety Observe all policies and procedures to ensure a safe endoscopy environment for patients, families, and staff Participate in continuous monitoring and quality improvement efforts Complete annual competency training on scope reprocessing Maintain required certifications Equipment, Documentation, and Inventory Perform routine equipment maintenance Assist with inventory management to support endoscopy services Help ensure dictated reports contain required information for electronic health record submission Follow hospital laboratory protocols for tissue specimen collection, labeling, and documentation Education and Collaboration Participate in education of self and others regarding job duties Support process improvement initiatives Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION
Required:
High School Diploma or Equivalent Preferred:
Completion of a Sterile Processing Program.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required:
1 year Hospital-based sterile processing experience. or
Required:
With preferred education, no experience required
Preferred:
2 years Hospital-based sterile processing experience.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Preferred:
CRCST
  • Certified and Registered Central Service Technician Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA).
Upon Hire or Preferred:
CSPDT
  • Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Tech Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc.
(CBSPD).
Upon Hire or Preferred:
CST
  • Certified Surgical Technologist National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
