Magnet-designated Comprehensive Stroke Center Unit overview
Department:
Sterile Processing (supports Day Surgery, OR, CVOR) OR volume: Supports 20+ operating rooms
Pace:
Very busy, fast-paced surgical environment Schedule cycle: Monday-Friday Shift length: 8 hours (Days 07:00-15:30, Mids 15:00-23:30, Nights 23:00-07:30)
Breaks:
One 30-minute lunch and one 15-minute break per shift Weekend rotation: None; no on-call; no holiday expectations
Parking:
Free Scrubs supplied; locker and lock provided Required experience & acceptance
Minimum:
3 years acute care experience First-time travelers: Accepted Patient types / common procedures Heavy orthopedics (total joints, sports medicine, trauma) Neurosurgery (AVMs, shunts, EVDs, craniectomies) ENT (stealth sinus, T&A), spine, plastics, vascular Minimally invasive: laparoscopic, Da Vinci robotic
GI, GU, OBGYN
procedures Required credentials No specific license or national certification required Core responsibilities & skills Decontamination, assembly, processing of instruments and trays Process loaner pans/trays No case picking responsibilities Daily rotation through specialties (will spend one day in each)
Endoscopes:
No flexible endoscope processing except bronchoscopy scopes and ureteroscopes Team & support Always work with other sterile processing techs (never solo) Lead Tech and Liaison assigned each shift Educator coverage for days and evenings; Manager/Supervisor on day shift Technology & equipment
EMR:
Epic Tracking system: SPM Station equipment: Steris brand SPT equipment, microscopes, blacklights, magnifiers at inspection stations Orientation Facility orientation: NEO Unit orientation: Up to 1 week Additional notes
