In this position, you will serve as a critical link between the surgical team, patients, and support staff, coordinating all aspects of patient care before, during, and after surgery. Your expertise in aseptic technique, anatomy, physiology, and hospital protocols will help deliver exceptional patient outcomes in a fast-paced environment. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a high-acuity setting such as a Level I Trauma Center or Level II Trauma Center, providing comprehensive perioperative support across diverse surgical disciplines including medical-surgical, pediatric, emergency medicine, and critical care. Responsibilities Act as the primary circulating nurse during surgical procedures by coordinating patient positioning, equipment setup, and instrument management to ensure optimal operating room flow. Maintain strict adherence to infection control standards and aseptic techniques to prevent contamination and ensure patient safety throughout all phases of surgery. Collect and document data related to patient vital signs, anesthesia levels, and intraoperative events using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or other EMR platforms. Assist with patient care activities including monitoring vital signs, administering basic life support (BLS) when necessary, and supporting anesthesia providers with physiological monitoring. Ensure all surgical instruments and supplies are sterile, organized, and readily available; perform suturing or wound closure assistance when needed. Communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nursing staff, and other team members to coordinate care seamlessly from pre-op through post-op recovery. Follow established protocols for infection control and sterile technique while managing patient records accurately within hospital information systems. Experience Prior experience working in an operating room environment with OR experience strongly preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and critical care principles applicable to perioperative settings. Experience in hospital medicine or emergency medicine environments is highly desirable. Familiarity with data collection related to patient vitals and intraoperative parameters is essential. Proven ability to work effectively within a Level I or Level II trauma center setting or ambulatory surgery center environment. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required; additional certifications such as ACLS or PALS are advantageous. Strong analysis skills for interpreting physiological data and responding swiftly to emergent situations are essential for success in this role. Join us in delivering exceptional surgical care by supporting our dedicated team with your expertise in perioperative nursing practices!
