PURPOSE OF THE JOB
We are seeking a highly skilled and professional Surgical Dental Assistant to support our dental team in clinical procedures, providing a high level of patient care and satisfaction while operating in a team-based environment. This role involves handling a variety of surgical clinical duties for dental office operations, ranging in high complexity and skill. All aspects of the job require an exceptional level of customer service skills and a strong commitment to working well with patients, hygienists, doctors, and other dental office team members.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare treatment rooms for patients by following prescribed procedures and protocols, ensuring a sterile and organized environment. Act as the support dental assistant for all dentists within the practice, providing seamless assistance during surgical procedures. Ensure adequate supplies are ordered and properly accounted for once received, maintaining inventory control. Ensure sufficient supplies in treatment rooms at the end of the day, restocking as necessary. Review schedules and prepare daily activities for all doctors they support, optimizing clinic operations. Set up, administer (where applicable), and maintain Nitrous Oxide & Oxygen (N2O) systems, ensuring patient safety and comfort. Demonstrate proficiency in traditional and digital impressions, ensuring accurate and efficient results. Provide inventory mechanisms for dental lab cases and ensure timely delivery for patient care. Maintain suction and water lines, ensuring proper functionality and hygiene. Distribute and collect completed documentation from patients, including medical history, and enter patient information into the electronic charting system. Provide instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering all necessary instruments to the treatment area, positioning instruments for the dentist's access, suctioning, and passing instruments during procedures. Assist in surgical procedures ensuring patient comfort and safety. Prepare and handle surgical instruments, ensuring they are sterilized and ready for use. Obtain and review needed consent for patient treatment, ensuring compliance with regulations. Provide postoperative instructions for treatment as prescribed by the dental provider, ensuring patient understanding and compliance. Ensure the operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, reporting repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment. Uphold office policies including HIPAA and OSHA regulations, ensuring compliance and maintaining patient confidentiality. Perform other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic practice setting.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required. Completion of a Dental Assisting Program is required with expanded functions, showcasing a commitment to professional development. Completion of a Dental Assisting Program is preferred, showcasing a commitment to professional development. Oral surgery assistance experience is required, demonstrating expertise in surgical procedures. Ability to assist the dentist with managing medical emergencies; maintaining CPR certification where required. Display initiative by maintaining professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks. High degree of flexibility, adapting to the needs of the practice and patients.
