Job Description
Overview Join our dynamic dental team as a Surgical Dental Assistant and play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care during complex dental procedures. This energetic position requires a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, assisting our skilled dentists with surgical treatments, ensuring patient comfort, and maintaining the highest standards of infection control. Duties Prepare treatment rooms with sterile instruments and materials, ensuring aseptic technique is maintained throughout procedures. Assist the dentist during surgical procedures such as extractions, implant placements, and other advanced periodontal treatments by managing instruments and devices efficiently. Take and develop dental radiographs (X-ray), including 3D scans when necessary, to assist in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. Monitor vital signs and patient comfort levels before, during, and after procedures to ensure safety and reduce anxiety. Manage medical documentation and records accurately within EMR systems like Open Dental, Dentrix etc adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy. Support the dental team with chairside assisting using knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and infection control protocols. Collaborate with the dental receptionist to schedule appointments and treatment planning, update medical history, and ensure smooth patient flow within the clinic. Requirements Proven experience as a Dental Assistant in a clinical setting, preferably with exposure to surgical dentistry. Proficiency in EMR systems such as Open dental, Dentrix; familiarity with dental and medical coding and documentation standards. Knowledge of infection control practices, aseptic technique, and sterilization procedures essential for surgical environments. Ability to perform X-ray imaging accurately and safely; experience with 3D scanners is a plus. Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to dental surgery. Excellent communication skills to assist patients effectively while providing clear instructions and reassurance. Certification in CPR/BLS preferred; additional certifications are advantageous.
