Periop Equipment Tech University of Maryland Medical System - 3.5 Baltimore, MD Job Details Full-time 18 hours ago Qualifications CPR Certification BLS Certification CPR Healthcare infection prevention and control expertise High school diploma or GED Aseptic technique Full Job Description Job Requirements Under the direct supervision of perioperative nursing, the Periop Equipment Tech performs a variety of perioperative support functions, including those of Operating Room Assistant and Surgical Support Technician, while adapting to the evolving demands and staffing requirements of the OR suite. Key responsibilities encompass maintaining clear and effective communication with patients and healthcare team members, ensuring the safe transfer and positioning of patients, preparing and maintaining the operating room environment, strictly adhering to infection control and aseptic protocols, managing surgical instruments and equipment, resolving technical issues, and ensuring the correct use of personal protective equipment. Additionally, the role includes specimen transport, assisting with preparatory procedures, supporting equipment logistics, collaborating with the Operations Manager regarding staffing and performance feedback, and acting as a liaison with Clinical Engineering and external vendors for equipment maintenance and repair. Access to medication storage areas is necessary to perform job duties effectively. Work Experience Education and Experience requirements for the Periop Equipment Tech position include a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED), a minimum of one year of relevant experience as a Surgical Support Technician, Operating Room Assistant, or in a comparable role, and current CPR certification. Candidates must possess a thorough understanding of universal blood and body fluid precautions, aseptic techniques, and demonstrate strong communication skills to ensure high-quality patient care. The position necessitates the ability to deliver care that is responsive to diverse patient populations, with a solid grasp of growth and development principles across the lifespan. During the initial 90-day employment period, new employees will undergo a comprehensive orientation and training program encompassing general hospital policies, job-specific procedures, operating room protocols, equipment management, and patient safety standards. A strong emphasis is placed on maintaining patient safety through the identification and mitigation of risks, prompt reporting of adverse events, and active participation in hospital safety initiatives.
