Job Description

Join our dedicated periodontal team at Periodontal and Implant Center of York (PICOY) as a full-time Surgical Dental Assistant and play a key role in delivering exceptional patient care throughout a range of specialized surgical procedures. This position is ideal for a motivated professional who thrives in a fast-paced, clinical environment with interests in educating patients of their dental condition and assisting in various periodontal surgeries such as dental implants, gum grafting, bone grafting, and extractions. You will work closely with our periodontists to ensure every procedure is performed with precision, efficiency, and patient comfort in mind. Beyond chairside assisting, you will serve as a trusted resource for patients — helping them understand their periodontal diagnosis, treatment plans, and the importance of gum health. This position typically works 32-34 hours/week.
Our office hours are:
Monday through Friday 7:30AM- 5:30PM. Your skills in dental assisting, infection control, and clinical documentation will support our commitment to providing the highest standard of periodontal care with compassion and expertise Responsibilities Prepare treatment rooms with sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment following aseptic techniques to maintain infection control standards. Assist during surgical procedures by handing instruments, managing suction, and ensuring patient comfort through chairside support. Take and develop dental radiographs (X-ray), including 3D scans when necessary, to assist in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. Manage electronic medical records to document procedures, vital signs, and medical histories accurately. Maintain a thorough understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and medical terminology to communicate effectively with the team. Support the dental receptionist by scheduling appointments, updating patient information, and managing medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Experience Requirements 1+ years proven experience working as a Dental Assistant in a clinical setting. High School diploma plus additional dental school training a plus Familiarity with EMR (electronic medical record) systems is highly desirable Knowledge of X-ray procedures, 3D scanner operation, and medical imaging techniques relevant to dental surgery. Strong understanding of dental assisting practices including aseptic technique, infection control protocols, and anatomy knowledge. Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently in four-handed dentistry setups while maintaining excellent patient rapport. Certification in radiography or X-ray Pennsylvania licensing required.
