Full-Time About the Role Val Verde Regional Medical Center (VVRMC) is seeking a highly skilled Certified Surgical First Assistant (CFA / CST-FA) to join our Operating Room team. In this role, you will work directly alongside surgeons to support a wide range of surgical procedures, ensuring optimal patient outcomes through precision, preparation, and technical expertise. What You'll Do Assist surgeons during operative and invasive procedures Provide surgical exposure, hemostasis, suturing, and stapling Anticipate surgeon needs and support the intraoperative workflow Position, prep, and drape patients according to procedure requirements Assist with wound closure and apply dressings per surgeon direction Maintain sterile field and adhere to strict aseptic technique Perform and verify accurate surgical counts (instruments, sponges, needles) Handle and manage surgical specimens according to protocol Prepare operating rooms with appropriate instruments, supplies, and equipment Ensure patient safety, dignity, and privacy throughout procedures Adapt care to meet the needs of patients across all age groups Communicate effectively with surgeons, nurses, and OR staff Maintain a clean, safe, and organized surgical environment Participate in performance improvement and departmental initiatives Perform other duties as assigned What We're Looking For Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Certification as a Certified First Assistant (CFA) through LCC-ST (AST affiliated) Current BLS and ACLS certifications required High school diploma or equivalent Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and sterile techniques Excellent communication and teamwork skills Ability to perform effectively in a high-pressure surgical environment What Sets You Apart Experience in multi-specialty surgical environments Strong technical proficiency in assisting with complex procedures Ability to anticipate surgeon needs and adapt quickly Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety Why Join VVRMC Work in a high-skill, fast-paced surgical environment Collaborative and experienced Operating Room team Opportunity to expand your surgical expertise across specialties Community-focused hospital where your work directly impacts patient outcomes Work Environment & Expectations Full-time, on-site position Operating Room setting with variable case schedules Requires standing for extended periods and high attention to detail Equal Opportunity Employer Val Verde Regional Medical Center is an Equal Opportunity Employer and complies with all applicable federal, state, and local laws regarding nondiscrimination.
