Job Description
The Surgical Technology Program Director/Instructor has responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, providing leadership and oversight for the Surgical Technology program. This role ensures compliance with the National Board of Surgical Technologist and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) Education Guidelines, supports faculty and students, manages curriculum, and promotes excellence in Surgical Technology education, consistent with the mission and goals of Lamar State College Port Arthur. Assigned classes may occur during the day, evening, and/or online with varying teaching locations including on-campus and affiliated healthcare facilities. This position reports to LSCPA's Allied Health Department. Provide day-to-day leadership, coordination, and supervision of the Surgical Technology Program Ensure program compliance with NBSTSA Education Guidelines, and LSCPA institutional policies Provide quality instruction Participate in college tasks, which includes but is not limited to, advising, recruiting, and tutoring Serve on departmental and college committees, perform community services, and participate in continuing educational and/or professional development opportunities Exhibit commitment and involvement in the development, implementation, and assessment of curriculum based on program, department and college goals and objectives Attend faculty meetings Maintain current knowledge, expertise, and safety in the subject areas of teaching responsibility along with broader higher education matters and trends Respond to students, faculty and staff in a timely and professional manner Occasional travel to various campus and/or conference, seminar locations Comply with campus policies and procedures Other related duties, as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Certified Surgical Technologist with current certification through National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) Minimum of three (3) years' experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist, following graduation from an approved program Must be currently employed as a Certified Surgical Technologist for at least three (3) years Work independently in the classroom Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint Possess time management and communication skills Valid driver's licensePreferred Qualifications:
Prior experience as a Surgical Technology Program Director or Coordinator Experience with simulation, ExamSoft testing, and online/hybrid learning management systems (e.g. Blackboard) Experience with public speaking Teaching experience in higher education Teaching experience at a two-year collegePhysical Requirements:
Duties may include standing, walking, bending, reaching, and occasional lifting or moving of equipment or materials up to 25 pounds.
