Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) specializing in Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) procedures. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of surgical techniques, patient care, and intraoperative assistance within a high-volume, fast-paced environment. As a CSFA - CVOR, you will collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff to ensure optimal surgical outcomes, patient safety, and adherence to infection control protocols. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to complex cardiovascular surgeries in a dynamic hospital setting committed to excellence in patient care. Duties Assist surgeons during cardiovascular procedures by providing precise tissue retraction, suturing, and hemostasis while maintaining strict aseptic technique. Prepare the operating room by ensuring all necessary surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment are sterile, functional, and ready for use. Monitor and document vital signs, patient physiology, and intraoperative parameters to support real-time decision-making. Support patient positioning and draping to optimize surgical access while safeguarding patient comfort and safety. Collaborate with the surgical team on discharge planning and post-operative care instructions for patients undergoing complex cardiovascular surgeries. Maintain accurate medical records and documentation within electronic health record (EHR) systems in compliance with hospital policies. Demonstrate proficiency with EMR systems such as Epic for charting, order entry, and documentation of intraoperative events. Uphold infection control standards by adhering to sterilization protocols and managing aseptic techniques throughout procedures. Participate in critical care activities within the CVOR suite, including emergency interventions and trauma response in Level I Trauma Center settings. Engage in ongoing professional development related to hospital medicine, emergency medicine, PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), and acute care practices. Skills Certification as a Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) with relevant experience in cardiovascular surgery environments. Extensive OR experience with a focus on cardiovascular procedures within Level II or Level I trauma centers. Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology pertinent to cardiac and vascular surgeries. Proficiency in suturing techniques, instrumentation handling, and intraoperative assistance tailored to CVOR cases. Familiarity with hospital information systems such as Epic or similar EMR/EHR platforms for documentation and order management. Ability to perform discharge planning effectively by understanding post-operative needs specific to cardiac patients. Critical care experience including ICU or acute care settings with exposure to pediatric populations (Pediatrics). Excellent analysis skills for interpreting vital signs and physiological data during complex surgeries. Commitment to infection control practices and maintaining sterile environments throughout operative procedures. Strong communication skills for collaboration within multidisciplinary teams focused on patient-centered care. MINIMUM EDUCATION
Graduate of a Surgical First Assistant program with eligibility to earn certification through National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA) or the National Surgical Assistant Association (NSAA) within 120 days from graduation.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
1 year of recent operating room experience, including direct patient contact and the practice of proper sterile technique.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
2 or more years of recent operating room experience
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE
Must be Certified Surgical Technologist. Certification as a certified first assistant through the NBSTSA, ABSA or NSAA. Certification must be maintained either through continuing education or through recertification testing.
Pay:
$28.82 - $44.66 per hour
