Knowledge of surgical procedures and terms Strong organizational skills Strong computer skills Ability to work well as a part of a team Professional people skills Attention to detail Summary The Clinical Material Specialist is responsible for applying experience and learned practices in ensuring the operating rooms have the equipment, implant, and inventory needs to successfully care for our patients. In addition, they are responsible for the coordination of activities between the surgeon, multiple vendors, value analysis, supply chain, sterile processing, tissue banks, surgical services, and business management to ensure surgical patients have the appropriate necessities at the right time in the safest and most cost efficient manner. Job Description The Clinical Material Specialist will post cases and review charges (requiring clinical knowledge of surgical cases), reorder implants or grafts, fulfill Joint Commission/FDA requirements for tissue management, monitor OR equipment, manage supplier partner relations with the OR, and constantly navigate surgeon requests for equipment, implants, and trials. The Clinical Material Specialist manages equipment repairs and coordinates equipment rentals or other needs with external companies and internal sites. This role is the primary contact for all aspects of the electronic inventory system with particular focus on management of Physician Preference (PPI) products. Usage and application of EMR, inventory, and analytical systems: systems including but not limited to EPIC, OneReport, Tecsys, and Lawson. Collaborates with other inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement and evaluate care. Demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of their clinical expertise/knowledge and utilizes previous experience to better plan and prepare for surgical cases. Cares for patients by properly planning for each patient's surgical requirements. They are responsible for the planning and acquisition of items that will be used in surgery for the care of our patients. Qualifications High school diploma required. Associate degree or post-secondary education preferred. Three to five years of experience as a LPN, Surgical Technologist, or in inventory management.
