Oral Surgery Assistant

Travel is REQUIRED---Charleston, WV and Ripley, WV offices. Obtain dental and/or maxillofacial radiographs and/or 3D imaging. Assist Oral Surgeon with many surgical procedures not limited to wisdom teeth extractions, dental implants, bone grafts, biopsies, apicoectomies and expose and ligate under local anesthesia and intravenous anesthesia. Obtain vital signs, blood sugars, PT/INR as directed by the RN or doctor. Complete Time-Out before start of procedure with patient and physician. Maintain airway on sedated patients. Keep airway as dry as possible. If OSA is DAANCE certified, she can administer IV meds per the verbal order of the physician. Obtain alginate impressions; pour up models (on occasion) and bite registration. Responsible for correct cleaning and sterilization of instruments used in surgical procedures. Provide room set-up prior to procedures and turn-over after the conclusion of the procedure. Set up and break down of operatory and central daily and stock OR's daily. Adhere to health and safety protocols as well as cross-infection to the highest standard. Ensure all dental instruments are correctly decontaminated and sterilized. Set up for patient surgery or consult visit. Assisting other clinical staff with laundry, ice packs, gauze packs, AED, mask checks daily, etc. Prepare IV bags and meds as directed by RN. Write patient notes efficiently and correctly as dictated by the Oral Surgeon. Call in prescriptions, return patient calls with any concerns. Monitor patients entering the room, during treatment and after the surgery. Maintain complete EMR notes and anesthesia record. Schedule appointments in WinOMS as needed and work the accounts receivable log as directed. Order medical, surgical, cosmetic and dental supplies as directed.

HIPPA & OSHA

officer duties. Autoclave and Ultrasonic maintenance and cleaning as directed weekly and monthly. Obtain Medical & Cardiac clearances when needed by the physician or RN. Monthly controls for CLIA (glucose, PT/INR, fire extinguishers, CT- QA testing) and recording. Laundry as indicated for office.

Examples:

patient towels, bibs, scrub, etc. daily. Close down central & OR's daily---Vacuum, mopping, etc. daily. Weekly cleaning assignment as scheduled by Supervisor. Clerical duties as assigned by Supervisor. Weekly chart checks for upcoming surgeries and consults. Call surgery patients at the end of the day to check on them and document in EMR. And any other tasks as assigned by RN supervisor or Doctor on staff.
