PRN Job Summary:
Work as a member of the surgical team and possess knowledge and skills in sterile and aseptic techniques. Must be able to anticipate the next move the surgeon is going to make in order to make the procedure as smooth and efficient as possible. Specialties can include but are not limited to the following: gu/gyn, urology, ENT, plastics, general, orthopedics, ophthalmology and GI. Utilize instruments, medications, and other supplies and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. Possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique. Demonstrate and encourage team behavior and exceptional patient/guest experiences. Uphold and promote patient safety and quality. Ability to communicate well with patients, families, teammates, physicians, and other members of the team. Demonstrate sound cost containment techniques. Demonstrate ability to understand and use sterilizers, GI washers, instrument washers, and Sterrad. Ensure that surgical site timeout process is completed and that correct site/procedure identified.
Education:
Must be a graduate from an accredited school of surgical technology or have equivalent experience (minimum 2 years' experience). Certification preferred.
Experience:
New graduate up to experienced surgical technologist preference by hiring unit. Hospital orientation and unit orientation.
Additional Skills/Abilities:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills. Must have excellent prioritization skills and the ability to multi-task.
