POSITION SUMMARY
- On Campus 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The Adjunct Surgical Technology Lab Instructor is responsible for providing hands-on instruction and skills training to students enrolled in the Surgical Technology Program. The instructor supports student development of entry-level surgical technology competencies through laboratory demonstrations, practice sessions, evaluations, and mentorship. The position ensures instruction aligns with program objectives, industry standards, accreditation requirements, and institutional policies. The Adjunct Surgical Technology Lab Instructor reports to and works under the direction of the Surgical Technology Program Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach assigned Surgical Technology laboratory courses and implement curriculum objectives as directed by the Program Director. Provide hands-on instruction and demonstrations related to surgical technology skills, including: Surgical instrumentation Sterile technique and aseptic practices Surgical procedures and equipment Operating room preparation and organization Surgical case management and safety practices Demonstrate proper techniques and supervise students during laboratory practice and competency assessments. Prepare, administer, and evaluate written and practical examinations, skills check-offs, and student assessments. Provide timely feedback and guidance to support student academic and technical skill development. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, competencies, and academic progress. Develop lesson plans, instructional activities, and laboratory exercises aligned with program outcomes. Assist with selecting and maintaining instructional materials, supplies, equipment, and laboratory resources. Identify student learning needs and provide appropriate support and remediation when needed. Promote professionalism, ethical behavior, communication skills, and appropriate attitudes required in the healthcare environment. Maintain a safe, organized, and effective laboratory learning environment. Participate in faculty meetings, training sessions, and program activities as assigned. Maintain current knowledge of surgical technology practices and industry expectations. Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Knowledge of current surgical technology practices, procedures, instrumentation, and operating room standards. Ability to effectively demonstrate and teach hands-on technical skills. Strong understanding of sterile technique, infection prevention, and patient safety practices. Ability to evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback. Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations. Strong commitment to student learning and professional development. Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with institutional policies and procedures. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associate degree in Surgical Technology (AS/AA) or equivalent education in the field preferred. Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required.
