Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Part-Time Surgical Technologist (CST) to join our Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) team, specializing in pain management procedures. This role is a vital member of the surgical team, responsible for maintaining the sterile field and assisting the physician throughout pain management and surgical procedures in the operating room.
Key Responsibilities and Duties Intraoperative Support:
Work within the sterile field, assisting the physician during pain management and surgical procedures.
Sterile Field Management:
Set up the sterile pain procedure tray according to the case type and the doctor's preference sheet/card. Apply aseptic technique for skin prep and draping. Maintain the highest standard of sterile technique throughout the procedure. Set up the sterile back table and Mayo stands with necessary instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions. Perform initial and additional sharps and sponge counts with the Circulating Nurse.
Direct Physician Assistance:
Anticipate the surgeon's needs by passing instruments, measuring and passing medications, hemostatic agents, and irrigation solutions, holding retractors, sponging/suctioning the operative site, and cutting suture material as directed.1
Procedure Preparation & Closing:
Assist in positioning the patient on the OR table and applying safety straps. Lead the Time Out to confirm patient name and DOB, procedure type, and preoperative medications/allergies. Complete all required paperwork per case, including the billing sheet and time out sheet. Assist in transferring patients back onto the gurney. Dispose of trays, medications, and sharps according to recommended guidelines. Clean the OR after each case and assist with terminal cleaning of the room.
Supply and Sterilization Management:
Maintain OR cleanliness and ensure supplies are fully stocked. Assure all sterile supplies and instrumentation have the correct indicators confirming the sterilization process has occurred.1 Perform Sterile Processing Department (SPD) duties, including cleaning and preparing instruments, trays, and wrapped items for sterilization, and maintaining autoclave equipment. Review the next day's case schedule to confirm all required instruments and supplies are available.
Qualifications and Education Education:
High school diploma and completion of a program at an accredited school or training program as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) with 3+ years of experience as a surgical technician is required.
Certification:
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Experience:
Previous OR experience as a surgical technician.
Skills:
Demonstrated understanding of aseptic technique and ability to work collaboratively as part of a healthcare team.
