Job Description:
Monitors cases to ensure all infection control measures are met, including correctly opening sterile supplies and identifying breaks in sterile technique. Participates in the preparation of the patient for procedures as directed by the RN and communicates pertinent patient information to the RN. Adheres to policies related to patient identification and confidentiality, and applies knowledge of surgical specialty positioning equipment. Ensures safe transport, transfer, and positioning of patients utilizing good body mechanics while maintaining patient privacy and dignity. Performs other duties as assigned. Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the department and adheres to all policies and procedures. Supports the customer and employee satisfaction activities of the organization and maintains good relationships with physicians, management, other departments, and staff. Follows CDC isolation guidelines, demonstrates appropriate use of PPE, performs handwashing according to policy, and adheres to all infection control practices. Maintains knowledge of instrumentation, equipment, and supplies needed for procedures to ensure accurate and complete case picking and preparation. Functions in the role of retractor, camera, or limb holder at the sterile field under the direction of the RN, Scrub Tech, and/or Surgeon. Ensures appropriate disposition of supplies, labs, and specimens, and participates in hand-off communication and verification process for specimens with laboratory personnel. Efficiently assists the team with safe and appropriate turnovers, utilizing knowledge of cleaning protocols for all types of specialty surgical equipment. Promotes a safe environment by taking appropriate action in emergency situations and identifying and reporting environmental concerns to the management team.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate written and verbal information.
  • Knowledge of sterile technique and operating room environment.
  • Ability to comprehend instructions and processes to carry out job requirements.
Education:
  • High School Grad or Equiv [Preferred]
Field of Study:
    N/A Work Experience:
    • Experience working with patients in an acute care setting. [Preferred]
    • PCT experience (dependent on role) [Preferred]
    • Previous experience in an acute care hospital setting.
    [Preferred]
