Job Description

LASIK Surgeon Technician St. Luke's Cataract & Laser Institute is looking to hire a full-time, medical receptionist to join our team at our Tarpon Springs location. About the Position This is an outstanding opportunity for a candidate who is eager to join our team in providing exceptional care to our patients in our growing practice. The position requires a person with outstanding interpersonal skills including a pleasant demeanor, positive attitude, tact, diplomacy, patience, and flexibility. The ideal candidate must also have the ability to interact effectively with patients, doctors, and staff. What do we look for? The LASIK Surgeon Technician assists ophthalmologists and refractive surgeons with pre-operative assessments, intraoperative support, and post-operative care for patients undergoing LASIK and other refractive procedures. This role requires advanced technical skills, attention to detail, and excellent patient interaction to ensure optimal outcomes and patient safety throughout the surgical process. Conduct thorough patient workups including corneal topography, pachymetry, wavefront analysis, and tear film evaluation. Perform diagnostic tests such as autorefraction, keratometry, OCT, and visual acuity assessments. Educate patients on LASIK procedures, pre-op instructions, and expectations. Prepare and verify surgical consent forms and ensure all pre-op documentation is complete. Set up and calibrate laser systems (e.g., femtosecond and excimer lasers) per surgeon protocol. Assist surgeon during LASIK procedures, including instrument preparation, eye stabilization, and suction monitoring. Maintain strict adherence to sterile field practices and infection control protocols. Monitor patient during procedure, providing reassurance and support. Perform immediate post-op checks and provide post-op care instructions. Document outcomes, patient feedback, and complications if any. Schedule follow-up appointments and assist with patient communication and education. Assist with managing surgical logs, outcomes data, and inventory of surgical supplies. Maintain surgical and diagnostic equipment, ensuring all devices are regularly serviced and calibrated. Stock and organize surgical supplies, drops, and disposables. Assist in training junior techs or new hires on LASIK protocols and equipment. Participate in QA/QI meetings related to refractive procedures. Must be able to travel between office locations Can effectively communicate with patients and staff. Can respond appropriately and effectively to common inquiries from patients. Basic computer knowledge, and the ability to learn new computer skills. Requires strong communication skills, excellent judgment, and the ability to multitask. Requires excellent interpersonal skills. Requires a good understanding of customer service standards and values of the practice. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma COA certification a plus, but not required; willingness to work towards certification over a period of time.
