Intermediate Job Description In the Surgical Technician role, you will serve as a vital member of the surgical team, assisting surgeons during procedures by maintaining a sterile environment and ensuring all instruments and supplies are prepared and available. This position may require flexible scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare and maintain sterile fields, including setting up instruments, equipment, and supplies based on surgical procedures and physician preferences. Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments, holding retractors, and anticipating surgical needs. Perform sponge, needle, and instrument counts with the circulating nurse to ensure patient safety. Assist with patient positioning, preparation, draping, and transport to and from the operating room. Maintain strict aseptic technique and adhere to all infection control and safety policies. Clean, decontaminate, and sterilize surgical instruments and maintain a well-organized, stocked operating environment.

Education, Certification & Experience:

Completion of a nationally accredited Surgical Technician or Operating Room Technician program preferred (may substitute for entry-level experience). Minimum of one (1) year of experience in instrument decontamination, sterilization, and surgical tray preparation required for entry level; additional one (1) year of surgical setting experience preferred for full performance level. Demonstrated knowledge of aseptic techniques, sterilization procedures, surgical instruments, and operating room protocols. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification required within six (6) months of employment. Strong attention to detail, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and effective communication skills. 0 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) positions assigned to 8 hour shifts. Accruals for these benefits are otherwise prorated based on FTE.
