The Surgical Technician will provide personal ancillary services in the Department of Surgery in support of operating room and perioperative operations across the Tripler Army Medical Center system of care. Schedule:
Service is provided in coordination with MTF operating hours; specific two-week schedules are provided one month in advance. Alternate work schedules and telework are not authorized.
Holidays:
May be required to work federally recognized holidays (compensated at the regular rate). Key Responsibilities Perform the full spectrum of sterile techniques, setting up surgical trays, preparing and draping patients, and assisting with post-operative dressings. Ensure surgical packs are cleaned and packed for sterilization after every procedure, including restocking surgical supplies. Maintain a clean, safe environment for the patient through active participation in cleaning clinical spaces, operating rooms, and equipment, or by guiding other personnel. Aid the surgical team by performing a surgical scrub and other support services for major and minor procedures, anticipating the surgeon's needs according to procedure and operative technique. Perform scrubbing and circulating duties across surgical specialties: general surgery, robotics, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, urology, ophthalmology, ENT, OB/GYN, OMFS, vascular, and orthopedic surgery. Apply principles of sterile technique; conduct point-of-use cleaning and transport the surgical case cart to Sterile Processing and waste/linen to the soiled utility room. Transport surgical patients, laboratory specimens, and blood products. Prepare instrumentation and supplies for surgery, including various methods of sterilization.
Required Qualifications Degree/Education:
Certificate. Graduate from a Surgical Technology program accredited by CAAHEP or
ABHES, OR
completion of a formal training program provided by any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces for surgical technicians, surgical technologists, or operating room technicians. (Contractor may request an equivalency determination.)
Certification:
Current Basic Life Support (BLS), AND certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) from
NBSTSA, OR
Tech-in-Surgery (TS-C) from
NCCT, OR
a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) certification as a surgical/operating room technician.
Experience:
Minimum of three (3) continuous years of recent experience (one year of which must have occurred within the last year) working as a scrub tech in an operating room setting, with diverse surgical experience (general surgery, urology, robotics, plastic surgery, neurosurgery, thoracic, eye, ENT, GYN, vascular, and orthopedic surgery). Waivers may be granted by the Contracting Officer for Surgical Services on an ad hoc basis.

Must be a U.S. Citizen. Compliance & Onboarding Requirements Must meet all DHA health requirements: immunizations, annual seasonal influenza vaccination, TB screening (TST/IGRA within 3 months of reporting to TAMC), and a physical examination confirming fitness for duty. Must pass security investigative requirements, including fingerprinting and completion of an SF-86 (or equivalent OPM investigative product); Child Background Check if working with children. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States (U.S. Citizen). Time worked is recorded in the Defense Medical Human Resources System-internet (DMHRSi).
