The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in the operating room, assisting surgeons and other medical staff during surgical procedures. This position requires a strong understanding of aseptic techniques, anatomy, and the ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments. The Surgical Technologist will ensure that all necessary instruments and supplies are prepared and available for surgery while maintaining a sterile environment. Responsibilities Applies knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, equipment and supplies needed for surgical cases. Responsible for the planning, preparation, assembly and organization of the environment, equipment and supplies, in conjunction with the RN, and all that is necessary to perform the surgical intervention. Responsible for creating and maintaining a sterile field, and for practicing and maintaining the principles of aseptic technique. Assist with decontamination and sterilization of surgical instrumentation and equipment. Demonstrate knowledge of the operation and use of decontamination and sterilization equipment. Demonstrate knowledge of the operation of mechanical, electrical and air powered equipment according to manufacturer's instructions, and ensures proper functioning before use. Ensures proper handling of the surgical specimen with the circulating nurse, as directed by the surgeon. Identifies, labels and handles medications safely on the surgical field. Verifies surgical site and laterality by active communication with the surgical team before surgical intervention. Assist in the cleaning of operating rooms between cases, and sets up for the next case. Demonstrate the ability to perform appropriately and in a professional manner during crisis and emergency situations. Knowledge of the admission and discharge processes in order to assist the nursing staff as necessary. Takes responsibility for professional competence and skills. Complies with all facility policies, procedures, philosophy, and goals. Follows the appropriate chain of command when issues need to be addressed. Demonstrate flexibility to meet the demands of varying situations, and assist in other areas of RASC as needed. Support teamwork within departments and between departments. Ensure that in every interaction, each person is treated with respect and courtesy, and that all communications are handled appropriately. Participate in maintaining a clean, well-stocked working environment, and assist other staff members in implementing cost containment measures. Participate in OR Department functions including, but not limited to, quality assurance and improvement projects, precepting new staff members, education to improve self and others, attending staff meetings and educational inservices as required. Maintain confidentiality of position acquired information. Qualifications Must be a graduate of an approved Surgical Technology Program. Certified Surgical Technician is desired. Current CPR certification is required. Past OR surgical technology experience is desired.
