Certified Surgical Technologist Full Job Description Certified Surgical Technologist Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Clinical Services, this employee assists doctors during office. Regular attendance is an essential part of this job. Full Time - 40 hours,
M-F Essential Functions:
1. Obtains vitals on patients 2. Schedules all testing, surgery, injections 3. Initiates pre-certs for all testing, surgeries and injections 4. Prepares injections for patients and assists doctors with the injections 5. Obtains, prints out, and faxes History and Physicals on all surgeries 6. Places patients in rooms, obtains needed x-rays, performs staple-suture removal, cast removal, dressing removal, and applies new dressings and Durable Medical Equipment (DME) 7. Keeps all physician's surgeries, business, and personal appointments on doctor's calendar. 8. Schedules depositions for doctor 9. Obtains current medication list from patient and enters into EHR 10. Communicates with surgery center to insure proper equipment is available for each case 11. Documents, calls in or e-scribes each prescription after approval from doctor 12. Returns and documents every clinical patient call 13. Explains to patients the instructions they will have to follow after surgery 14. Reviews all testing results and forwards necessary ones to doctor 15. Maintains diagnostic testing log book 16. Obtains x-ray reports on all outside x-rays 17. Ensures a copy of surgery face sheet is returned to the office 18. Marks CPT and ICD-10 codes for surgery charges 19. Reviews Didn't Keep Appointment (DKA) charts and sends reminders to patients as needed 20. Updates hospital privileges annually 21.Assists the physician in surgery
Additional Responsibilities:
1. Cross covers other doctors as necessary 2. Obtains necessary Continuing Medical Education credits (CMEs) unless grand fathered in. 3. Works in Urgent Care on a Saturday rotation schedule The preceding examples are representative of the assignments performed by this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive.
Job Qualifications:
1. Certified Surgical Technologist with current license 2. Prior experience in an office setting a plus 3. Proven ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment 4. Prior experience in Orthopaedics preferred 5. Ability to learn new computer programs quickly 6. Strong verbal and interpersonal skills 7. Ability to work with all doctors and nurse
