Shift:
First Shift (Days - 8 Hour Shifts) Position Summary The CVOR Surgical Technologist is a key member of the cardiovascular surgical team responsible for providing sterile instrumentation, supplies, and technical support during complex cardiac and vascular procedures. Working alongside cardiovascular surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, perfusionists, and other surgical personnel, the Surgical Technologist ensures a safe and efficient operative environment while maintaining strict sterile technique. This position supports high-acuity cardiovascular procedures including open-heart surgeries, valve replacements, aortic repairs, vascular procedures, and transcatheter interventions. Baptist Health Louisville's CVOR includes dedicated cardiovascular operating suites equipped with advanced technology for complex cardiac surgeries. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Surgical Preparation Prepare and organize cardiovascular operating rooms for scheduled procedures. Verify availability and functionality of specialized cardiovascular instruments, equipment, and supplies. Perform surgical counts according to facility policies. Ensure all sterile fields are properly established and maintained. Intraoperative Responsibilities Function as the primary scrub technologist during cardiovascular and thoracic surgical procedures. Anticipate surgeon needs and efficiently pass instruments, sutures, implants, and supplies. Maintain sterile technique throughout all phases of surgery. Assist with preparation and management of grafts, vascular instruments, cannulation supplies, and specialized cardiac equipment.
Participate in complex procedures including:
Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) Valve Repair and Replacement Open Heart Surgery Thoracoabdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair Vascular Procedures Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) Emergency Cardiovascular Surgeries Assist with patient positioning and preparation before surgery. Handle surgical specimens according to established protocols. Maintain accurate instrument and sponge counts throughout procedures. Post-Procedure Responsibilities Assist with room turnover and preparation for subsequent procedures. Clean, inspect, and prepare instruments for sterilization and reprocessing. Restock supplies and maintain inventory levels within the CVOR. Ensure compliance with infection prevention and patient safety standards. Team Collaboration Collaborate closely with surgeons, circulating nurses, perfusionists, anesthesia providers, and other perioperative personnel. Participate in emergency response situations and urgent cardiovascular cases. Support quality improvement and patient safety initiatives. Serve as a resource for less experienced surgical technologists when appropriate. Required Qualifications Education Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology Program OR Military Surgical Technologist Training Program. Certifications Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through NBSTSA required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Current certification must remain active throughout assignment. Experience Minimum 2 years of recent Surgical Technologist experience. Minimum 1 year of dedicated CVOR/Cardiovascular Surgery experience strongly preferred. Recent experience scrubbing open-heart and major vascular procedures required. Travel experience preferred but not required. Required Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and surgical procedures. Expertise in sterile technique and aseptic practices. Ability to anticipate surgeon needs during complex procedures. Familiarity with cardiac instrumentation, vascular instruments, and specialty surgical equipment. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Ability to perform effectively in high-stress, fast-paced surgical environments. Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety. Knowledge of surgical counts, specimen handling, and infection control practices. Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods during lengthy surgical procedures. Ability to lift, push, pull, and transport surgical equipment and supplies. Manual dexterity sufficient for handling delicate instruments and surgical materials. Ability to wear surgical attire and personal protective equipment for extended periods. Visual acuity required for identifying instruments, sutures, and surgical anatomy. Preferred Qualifications Experience with CABG, TAVR, valve replacement, and aortic repair procedures. Experience in a high-volume cardiovascular surgery program. Experience working in Level I Trauma or tertiary-care hospitals. Previous travel contract experience. Knowledge of cardiovascular implants, grafts, and perfusion equipment.
Pay:
$50.00 - $55.00 per hour Application Question(s): Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology Program OR Military Surgical Technologist Training Program. Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through NBSTSA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Minimum 2 years of recent Surgical Technologist Minimum 1 year of dedicated CVOR/Cardiovascular Surgery experience strongly preferred. Recent experience scrubbing open-heart and major vascular procedures required. Are you comfortable with the First Shift (Days - 8 Hour Shifts)? Are you comfortable working onsite at the location Louisville, KY 40207? Are you comfortable working on 3-5 months of contract assignment with extensions? Are you comfortable with the rate of $50 - $55 an hour? Do you hold EPIC experience? Are you a local or traveler - Travelers are accepted living beyond 50 miles with a copy of their driving license or a state ID stating permanent residency and are eligible for a travel package.
