Local Pay:
$45•50/hour ($1,687•1,875/week) based on experience Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to support surgical services within an acute care operating room environment. The Surgical Technologist will work under the direction of the surgeon and registered nurse to prepare and maintain a sterile surgical field, assist during procedures, and ensure the availability and functionality of surgical instruments and equipment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong knowledge of aseptic technique, surgical procedures, and patient safety standards. Responsibilities Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures by organizing instruments, equipment, sterile drapes, and supplies. Establish and maintain sterile fields in accordance with AORN standards and infection prevention guidelines. Assist surgeons and nursing staff during surgical procedures by passing instruments, supplies, and equipment. Perform scrub duties across multiple surgical specialties and service lines. Ensure surgical instruments, equipment, and specialty supplies are available and functioning properly prior to procedures. Assist with surgical counts, specimen handling, and preparation of laboratory specimens. Support patient positioning, transport, and intraoperative safety measures. Assist with wound dressing application and postoperative patient transfer activities. Prepare, label, and handle medications under the direction of the surgeon and registered nurse. Operate and assist with surgical equipment, lights, suction devices, and sterilization equipment as needed. Participate in operating room turnover, restocking, and equipment maintenance activities. Maintain accurate adherence to infection control, sterilization, and patient safety protocols. Assist in orienting and mentoring new operating room personnel when assigned. Collaborate with surgical team members to support efficient workflow and quality patient outcomes. Participate in staff meetings, educational programs, and professional development activities. Required Qualifications Education Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or Military Operating Room Technician program required. Licensure & Certifications Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required. Current BLS Certification required. Certification must remain active throughout the assignment. Experience Recent Operating Room Surgical Technologist experience required. Experience scrubbing a variety of surgical specialties required. Orthopedic surgery experience strongly preferred. Experience working in an acute care hospital operating room preferred. Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of surgical instrumentation and sterile processing principles. Thorough understanding of aseptic technique, infection prevention, and operating room protocols. Ability to anticipate surgeon needs during procedures. Strong attention to detail and patient safety awareness. Knowledge of specimen handling and surgical medication preparation practices. Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Strong organizational and critical-thinking abilities. Commitment to maintaining a safe, efficient, and patient-centered surgical environment. Additional Information First contract includes no routine call and no weekend requirements. Future contract extensions may include weekend shifts, backup call, overnight call, and holiday coverage based on department needs. Orthopedic surgical experience is highly desirable.
