About Atlas Surgery Center Atlas Surgery Center is a state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center providing specialized surgical care for patients with neurologic conditions requiring intervention. As an academic, university-affiliated surgery center, Atlas is committed to delivering safe, high-quality neurosurgical care in a focused surgical environment that supports patient safety, clinical excellence, education, research, and a positive experience for patients, providers, staff, and learners. Position Summary Atlas Surgery Center is seeking a Surgical Technologist / Surgical Technician to join our clinical team. This role supports safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care by preparing the operating room, maintaining the sterile field, anticipating the needs of the surgeon and surgical team, and assisting during operative and procedural cases. The Surgical Technologist will support neurosurgical, endovascular, spine, and other surgical procedures performed in an ambulatory surgery center setting. This position also assists with room turnover, supply readiness, equipment preparation, preference cards, and other operating room needs within scope of practice. Key Responsibilities Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: Prepare operating rooms for scheduled cases by reviewing the OR schedule and physician preference cards and selecting required instruments, equipment, supplies, implants, medications, solutions, and specialty items. Create, maintain, and monitor the sterile field before and during procedures in accordance with aseptic technique, infection prevention standards, and facility policies. Perform the surgical scrub, set up the sterile back table and mayo stand, and prepare instruments, supplies, and equipment needed for procedures. Assist with patient draping, surgical site verification, time-out procedures, positioning support, and establishment of the sterile field as directed. Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team by passing instruments, supplies, sutures, medications, solutions, irrigation, and other items accurately and efficiently. Handle delicate surgical, neurosurgical, and specialty instruments with care and precision. Perform instrument, sponge, sharps, and other required surgical counts with the circulating nurse in accordance with facility policy. Assist during procedures by holding retractors, instruments, or sponges; suctioning the operative site; cutting suture material; and performing other tasks as directed and within scope of practice. Assist with room turnover, restocking, equipment readiness, and preparation of the operating room or procedure room for the next patient. Collaborate professionally with surgeons, registered nurses, radiology staff, anesthesia providers, vendors, materials management, and other members of the care team. Support a clean, organized, safe, and efficient surgical environment. Required Qualifications Completion of a nationally accredited Surgical Technology Program, completion of a Military Surgical Technology Program, or qualification as a grandfathered surgical technologist under applicable New York State requirements. Ability to demonstrate competency in sterile technique, surgical asepsis, surgical instrumentation, operating room workflow, and safe surgical support practices. Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with surgeons, registered nurses, anesthesia providers, radiology staff, vendors, and other members of the care team. Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of the position. Ability to complete required orientation, competency validations, mandatory education, and continuing education requirements. Preferred Qualifications Two years of Surgical Technologist or scrub technologist experience preferred. Prior experience in an operating room, ambulatory surgery center, hospital, procedure room, hybrid OR, or similar clinical environment preferred. Experience with neurosurgical, spine, endovascular, interventional radiology, or minimally invasive surgical procedures preferred. Experience working with delicate specialty instrumentation, implants, scopes, cameras, radiology equipment, or advanced surgical technologies preferred.
Licensure / Certifications
Certified Surgical Technologist certification required upon hire, unless the individual qualifies under an approved new graduate timeframe or applicable New York State grandfathering provision. New graduates must obtain CST certification within one year from the date of graduation, unless otherwise required by applicable law, regulation, or facility policy. Basic Life Support certification required within 90 days of hire. Company-paid BLS training will be provided, if needed. Must maintain required certifications and continuing education in accordance with certifying body requirements, applicable laws, regulations, and facility policy.
Schedule / Work
Hours Schedule / Work Hours Full-time and part-time opportunities may be available. Shifts are typically 8 or 10 hours and may vary based on surgical schedule, procedural volume, patient care needs, staffing, and business operations. Compensation The expected compensation range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00 per hour . Actual compensation will be determined based on relevant experience, education, qualifications, licensure/certification, skills, and internal equity. This range represents Atlas Surgery Center's good-faith estimate of the expected compensation for this position at the time of posting, in accordance with New York State pay transparency requirements. This position requires prolonged standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and assisting with patient positioning and transfers. The employee must be able to lift up to 30 pounds and assist with patient transfers, equipment movement, and patient-care activities, using assistance or mechanical aids when appropriate. This role also requires visual and auditory acuity for documentation, equipment awareness, patient monitoring support, and communication with patients and the care team. The employee may be required to wear radiation protection equipment, including lead aprons and other protective devices, for extended periods as needed based on procedure type and assigned work area. This role may involve exposure to radiation, blood, bodily fluids, sharps, infectious materials, cleaning agents, hazardous chemicals, medical equipment, and other clinical materials.
