Job Description

Join Cleveland Clinic's Main Campus where research and surgery are advanced, technology is leading-edge, patient care is world-class, and caregivers are family. Cleveland Clinic's Cardiothoracic Surgery Department offers virtually every type of cardiac surgery. Their depth and breadth of experience allows them to perform complex operations while using the newest surgical techniques, equipment and devices, including minimally invasive surgery, off-pump bypass, robotically assisted and percutaneous procedures. Surgical Technologists, sometimes called "scrub techs", assist in surgical procedures under the supervision of surgeons and registered nurses and ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and maintaining a sterile field. Surgical Technologists perform a variety of functions, such as checking supplies and equipment, setting up sterile tables, performing appropriate counts, draping the sterile field, passing instruments to the surgeon and assistant during the procedure, prepare sterile dressing and clean instruments for terminal sterilization. A caregiver in this position works nights from 5:00pm to 6:30am. Orientation hours are 6:00am to 2:30pm, Monday through Friday and will be held for 3-6 months. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Set up the sterile table and ensure appropriate supplies, drugs and equipment are available. Assists RN in counting all sponges, instruments, etc. at appropriate times during surgery. Assist in gowning and gloving surgical team members and draping patients. Ensure aseptic condition is maintained by the scrubbed surgical team through the procedure. Participate in the intraoperative "timeout." Collect, identify and label specimens removed during surgical procedures and gives specimens to circulator for disposition. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Completion of a surgical technology program accredited through the CAAHEP or
ABHES OR
completion of a military surgical technology program OR certification as a Surgical Technologist (acceptable certifications for this route are TS-C (through the National Center for Competency Training) or CST (through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
Physical Requirements:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull, and navigate supply carts weighing > than 75 pounds periodically . Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions of working irregular hours. Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids. Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range Minimum hourly:
$28.50 Maximum hourly: $39.00 The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate's actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate's work history, experience, skill set and education. The pay range displayed does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.).
